Having insisted for the past year that there was nothing in the data to indicate that a red wave was coming, I’m very happy to have been proven correct.

Nobody’s more susceptible to groupthink than the political press and I’ve a few thoughts about why the CW was so wrong. 1/ The core problem was normalcy bias. The out-party has almost always done well in modern midterms, And the political press began with the assumption that the pattern would hold. The fact that MAGA is shouty just helped drive that belief home. 2/

Never made edibles before but I’ve got a bunch of decarboxed weed and some ghee and we’ll see how it turns out. (I think we tried to make brownies in college once but had no clue what we were doing and it was a disaster so that doesn't count.)

This has all kinds of fascinating little tidbits. Only the most bonkers MAGA cultists will keep trying to defend him. “In some instances, even the FBI counterintelligence personnel and DOJ attorneys conducting the review required additional clearances before they were permitted to review certain documents.”

Just read a lengthy Nate Silver analysis of factors that might shape the OH senate race and it did not mention Roe or abortion.

I watched She-Hulk. I like her! I’m pretty uninterested in the controversies surrounding her.

SPOILER ALERT!

I do object to “Smart-Hulk,” who is physically The Hulk but has Bruce Banner’s personality. This made things simpler for the writers but fucked up the whole character. SPOILERS!

At one point, he chides She-Hulk, who is also always herself, for not having suffered the feeling that someone else is inside you, vying for control, as he had.

But then he’s just solved that whole problem somehow.

Argues for a pardon rather than prosecution and that should be a non-starter. It’d only validate the right’s entire theory of the case—that it’s a partisan effort to keep Trump from running by Dems who fear him rather than a judicial process to uphold the rule of law. 1/2 He needs to be found guilty in a court of law. It’s the only way to counter the inevitable bullshit.

If you want to argue that a pardon might help soothe a fractured polity and stave off a wave of far-right terrorism, that’s fine. Just pardon him after he’s been proven guilty.

There’s no reason to take Trump’s word about anything, including that the feds took his passports. Dude told an average of 20.9 lies per day over the course of his presidency. Sorry, that’s 20.9 “false or misleading statements” per day, on avg

I am supposed to take a long-planned trip to visit old friends on the West Coast in a few weeks and I have a lot anxiety about traveling now. I know it isn't rational, as I'd be vaxxed and masked. But still. I dunno. I need to buy a ticket or cancel very soon.

I’ve decided to do this, if I can raise some money and write about it.

Is there an automated way, like with analytics, to figure out the...maybe 100 people with whom I’ve interacted the most on Twitter during the pandemic? I am bringing the doggies! So you guys can meet Emma and Oscar and Daisy if you live near our route.

Damn, the political press can't get anything right. Castro was 100% correct on automatic enrollment.

Beto said his proposal features it. It does, for all uninsured.

Biden says, "you just described my plan." That's wrong, he'd only automatically enroll those under 138% of FPL. Castro offers an anecdote about his grandmother.

Then he says the difference btw his approach and Biden's is auto enrollment versus a buy-in. He's now talking about the general population.

Biden says "they" don't have to buy in. THEN he pivots to those who can't afford it.

11 months ago, "Spygate" was a Trump tweet that even Republicans said was silly. It was just fodder for late-night comedians.

How times have changed. 1/ 6/6/18: "Rep. Tom Rooney, a top Republican lawmaker on the House Intelligence Committee, is ripping President Donald Trump's unsupported claim that the FBI inserted a spy inside his campaign."

Bill Barr has been portrayed as a veteran DOJ hand and a relatively straight-shooter. Is that image right? Or is he, as William Safire dubbed him way back in 1992, the "The Coverup-General"?

A thread. Marcy Wheeler compared what we know from Roger Stone's case to Barr's summary, and writes that it offers "proof that Bill Barr’s memo spins the known contents of the Mueller Report to minimize the complicity of Trump’s flunkies."

There's so much wrong with Frum's embarrassing immigration piece that it's hard to know where to start.

Gonna focus for a minute on his central premise. Frum claims that there is no room to discuss immigration control on the left, so we cede the whole issue to the ethno-nationalist hard-right.

This is the diametric opposite of reality, where only the left has shown any willingness to compromise.
