I went off he military beat and wrote a piece for @seattletimes about Bruiser, the lone elk on WA state’s Whidbey Island:

Bruiser swam miles to the island about a decade ago. Nobody know why. Neighbors feed him and he lives in solitary peace. But when the rut, or mating season, hits, no female elk answer his bugling, and Bruiser lives with the consequence of his big swim:

U.S. sailors and prostitutes have ate, drank and slept together in Bahrain for years. But in 2017, as two ship collisions rocked the Navy out in Asia, a different kind of crisis was brewing on the Middle Eastern island.
