Interesting points from the Taliban on Middle East crisis. The group is fairly aligned with Iran on Gaza but usually careful with words. As shown below, US departure from #Afghanistan was a massive boon for Tehran's strategic goals despite deep differences with Taliban. 🧵 Image Just before ISIS claimed attack in Iran at Soleimani's mosoleum which killed 84, Taliban had put strength of Islamic State Khorasan in the country between 70-80. While probably not true, but it portrays Taliban's war against Daesh as a success.

There have been end number of threads, explainers over manner of India's ties with Russia and stance over Ukraine. Modi calling for "immediate end to violence" is in fact already more steadfast than 2014. If some folks still refuse to understand, maybe thats just bias at work. If some highlight that closeness to US will batter India - Russia ties, well Russia's closeness to China offer the same challenges. But its not black-white in this business. During Galwan (which is still on) it was Moscow that took centre stage, willingly. eastasiaforum.org/2020/10/23/how…

Taliban can sense (or fully now knows) that the US withdrawal is a done deal. This language is what you expect from a foreign ministry of a state, not the likes of Taliban. As I argued in my piece for @orfonline, Taliban, after the US deal, will not stop till it achieves its aim of being fully in control and reverse the humiliation it suffered post 9/11. @samirsaran orfonline.org/expert-speak/a…

Hello, short thread to follow on the arrest of pro-ISIS group from raids conducting in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and a short description what this means and how an ISIS thread needs to be seen from an Indian context. First, want to start with the pic below of recovered weapons... So, barring the local made guns, bullets and print outs of ISIS imagery...the two things that have caught people's attention is the "rocket launcher" and general firecrackers (green ones) that one can buy off the shelf in and around Diwali.

I don't study economics, but I do study terrorism, and 'demonetization will end terrorism finance' was one of the most ridiculous bogeys of the entire exercise. #DemonetisationAnniversary The whole idea of fighting terror finance has been an abject failure in global discourse, not just in India's case. A shift to hawala movements have worked for global terror groups.
