We know about the "leaky pipeline" for women in econ--but what can be done? My new article provides a toolkit of interventions for attracting & retaining women in economics at every stage (forthcoming in the JEP's symposium on women in econ). (1/4) www3.nd.edu/~kbuckles/Buck… Where possible, I've focused on interventions that have been carefully evaluated. I also draw on research in other disciplines in which women are under-represented. The idea was to identify things that deans, chairs, teachers, mentors, colleagues, etc. can do. (2/4)

Have seen a few things related to letter-writers for tenure/promotion recently & want to pass along some advice that I think helped me. It’s the part of the process that feels least in your control, but there are things you can do. Thread! 1st, find out what the rules & standards are at your institution. Who can’t write for you (often advisors, co-authors, ppl from PhD dept.)? Do they have to be full profs? How important is the prestige of the writer or her institution?
