How and why had Stalin conducted the Great Purge of 1936-1938?

How many talented generals & military did he kill?

And what did this mean for the fate of millions of Soviet people, on the Eve of the War with Nazi Germany?

🧵 Image Stalin precisely followed a Machiavellian principle: “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”

The event, which especially bothered Stalin, was the recent army insurrection in Spain

Having realized the importance of the army in political life, Stalin was determined to make everything possible to succumb the Red Army under his authority, and make sure there was NO ONE to question him

Anyone saying Ukraine is not an integral part of Europe, probably, does not know that Ukrainian blood has been flowing among European Royal Families ever since the Middle Ages Image Yaroslav the Wise, Grand Prince of Kyiv and Prince of Novgorod, was married to Ingegerd Olofsdotter of 🇸🇪, the daughter of the 🇸🇪 king Olof Skötkonung

How did Ukrainians contribute to the world literature & which writers and poets you should know? Image Ukrainian literature, as well as the very foundation of modern Ukrainian language has been shaped by the "Ukrainian Bard", Taras Shevchenko, also known as Kobzar

Shevchenko was a polymath, excelling in writing, poetry and paintings. He was equally a prominent political figure, folklorist and ethnographer

He was born in 1814 in Kyiv Governorate, then Russian Empire, in family of serf peasants, owned by a russian landlord Vasily Engelhardt

Taras's forefathers were Cossacks who served in the Zaporozhian Host and had taken part in the Cossack uprisings of the 17th and 18th centuries, brutally destroyed by Russian Empress Catherine

Taras childhood in russian slavery has influenced his works and political career, championing Ukrainian independence

There's been a lot fo talk about inventions lately

So, what did Ukrainians actually invent?

Here's a quick recap: Image 1. Hard disk drives (HDD)

HHDs was a true revolution in recording information. It was made possible by two scientists — David Thompson and Lubomyr Romankiw

Lubomyr was born in 1931 in Zhovkva, Ukraine, and now he works and lives in the United States

Romankiw became the author of 65 patents throughout his life, made a career at IBM, and received international recognition

In 2012, Lubomyr Romankiw, along with 9 other inventors (including Steve Jobs), entered the US National Hall of Fame

I have just received a very interesting update, details of which I cannot share for the safety of the source and due to a still ongoing developments

What I can share, however, is this:

🇷🇺 Empire & Putin are finished If the source is correct, however, the main focus now is:

- averting Putin's last terrorist act in Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

- overseeing the de-militarisation of Nazi 🇷🇺

- post war rule of 🇷🇺 or its parts

- making sure ALL REPARATIONS & agreements are sealed in 🇺🇦 favour

I was finishing my studies in 🇪🇸 when Mom called on May 1st:

“Tomorrow it will be decided”

Pro-🇷🇺 demonstrators were camping in Odesa central square for several months at that point, and as Eastern 🇺🇦 regions were falling into enemy’s hands, collaborators got emboldened

🧵 My family took part both in the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity of 2014

Nevertheless, we knew this time in Odesa it won’t be peaceful

In April 2014 🇷🇺 has already annexed several parts of my country & the monster of 💀 was eyeing the "jewel of the Black Sea": Image

I don’t know how many of your read “Mein Kampf”

But in light of Medvedev’s last messaging I highly recommend reading it to understand the parallels and tenets of 🇷🇺 Nazism

For anyone who doesn’t have time: “ 🇺🇦 Nazi regime, by the American mentor’s order, has put Europeans into a financial and political inferno”

99 years ago Adolf Hitler urged German nation to get rid of Jews because “they had put Germany and all Europe into a precarious economic situation” Image

The enemy of the Democratic World is not Putin

All Russian Imperialists, most of which are in fact against Putin, pose a direct threat to sovereignty, security and well-being of our societies

And most importantly, a mortal threat to all Russia's immediate neighbours

Size of Ukraine is almost double of Germany (603,700 km² vs 357,588 km²)

However, the population of Ukraine is twice less than that of Germany

Why?

And what is next for Ukraine?

🧵 1. Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 took lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian people, who fought for Independent Ukraine

2. War Communism, New Economic Policy (NEP) & Dekulakization, implemented by Lenin, led to a famine in 1921–22 that claimed a million lives in Ukraine

Same evening in London. 2nd 🧵

About 25 people in total, from all over the world

It’s 5 of us, Russian speakers. The girl from Donetsk (from a previous story), a guy from Kyrgyzstan, a guy from Moldova, a guy from Russia & myself

We form a circle in the kitchen, chatting So you are form Moscow, I gather? – I ask the Russian guy

“You should say "из Москвы, not c Москвы”, - he says

A bit of a dick move, but ok, no judgement 😃

“How long you’ve been living in London?”, - I ask

“12 years”

Surely, he understands, - I hope, though not too sure

Met a girl from Donetsk this evening

Beautiful, young Ukrainian girl, been in London for a week only

Russian speaker from Donbas. 8 Years of never ending propaganda... I didn't know what to expect

But then she told me:

🧵 "My parents could not leave Donbas because of elderly relatives. They have been suffering in limbo for over 8 years now. They have had to pretend everything is ok to survive. Since February 24th her father went outside to the street ONCE - to a dentist"
