Calling Sacheen Littlefeather a fake only serves white supremacy in that you are undermining and delegitamizing the real work she did as an Indigenous activist. She put eyes on the Wounded Knee occupation with her protest at the Academy Awards during the height of the siege. /1
Sacheen put her life at risk with this protest, was shot at, and was blacklisted from Hollywood specifically to serve as an example by the government to discourage any further Indigenous activism in the United States. indiancountrytoday.com/archive/a-rece… /2

Proof has come forward: @jfkeeler's "professional, vetted genealogists" for the "Alleged Pretendian List" are Cherokee members David Cornsilk and Kathy White Griffin, who have been earlier shown to exhibit anti-Black behavior and harassing other people for questioning them.
More screenshots of Cornsilk and Kathy: @jfkeeler pray tell, how are we supposed to view these two as competent professionals to handle other people's personal and confidential information? You are allowing people with a huge bias and racist history to play authority.

I'm sure I confuse Keeler & her supporters bc "why would an enrolled Dine person do all of this?"
Because I don't judge ppl by posession of papers or use records to determine ppl's authenticity bc that is colonial toxic bs that has no place in our future as Indigenous ppl.
I do not go to other tribes where I have no idea and demand ppl to prove themselves. I listen to ppl: their stories, their experiences, & their knowledge. The more we use colonial papers & systems to determine ourselves, the more we continue to contribute to our own extinction.
@jfkeeler Ahem. From the Association of Professional Genealogists in their Code of Ethics and Professional Practices, guidelines, one should "refrain from withholding, suppressing, or knowingly misquoting or misinterpreting sources or data".
One should also "Treat information concerning living people with appropriate discretion", I believe that having the Pretendian list on semi-public Googles Sheets doc lacks discretion as one with an email address and your approval can access it more than once.

Very interesting how most major Indigenous organizations, actors, writers, artists and more follow @jfkeeler but seem to not make any statements or unfollow her account after recent events. Their silence speaks volumes of their own morals.
Saad Bee Hozho's silence on this is especially damning. I can't imagine being a group of Dine writers and poets who have Keeler as their member, wrote that letter about Roanhorse and NONE of them have said ANYTHING regarding this past week. Really, really disappointing.

Hi Kathy. Is this you saying how "sad it is" that rapist Daniel Thomas is being sued? On your personal FB account? Daniel Thomas is currently being sued for targeted harassment of the Ramapough Mountain Indians, link to doc: cdn.fbsbx.com/v/t59.2708-21/…
@CherokeeGriffin you and @jfkeeler have publically supported him and all of you work together to discredit other Indigenous people.
Daniel Thomas (@StrongWalker360) is stated in the above court doc for INTENTIONALLY claiming the RMI are fraud in a bid to get their casino rights.

Keeler is apparently going to publish the Pretendian list. She is going to put a lot of people in jeopardy with this action; their livelihoods, their families. All because she thinks she has the authority to question other's heritage. This is intentional violence.
Multiple people have come forward stating that Keeler putting them or a loved one on the list puts them in danger. Its not a "pretendian list". She is publicly doxing ppl she doesn't approve of. She spouts that she has proof, but most of the people she works with--

In a change of pace, and to raise awareness, I'd like to talk about an issue that's been ongoing for 10+ years from my old college town: There's an art gallery, mostly for Indigenous art, owned by a white family in Durango, Colorado. They have this sign outside of their store:
It was originally from an old, "Western-style" diner, "Chief Diner" in Durango that white people fawned over. The owners, the Clark Farmily, of Toh-Atin, the art gallery, bought the sign and displayed it outside of their store on their "private land" since the early 80s.

Hey everyone, @jfkeeler is yet again attacking and trying to frame a Black Indigenous person as a "pretendian". This woman does NOTHING in good faith and is not someone we should be supporting. Come on. We don't need someone who is trying to pick who is/isn't Native--
--and WHO DOES EVEN HAVE JURISDICTION OR AUTHORITY to do these things. This is what was always going to happen if we didn't hold her accountable, now she's being transparently anti-black and using colonized techniques to determine "authenticity".
Absolutely abhorrent behavior.

I wasn't public with this bc I was afraid of the backlash, but I was chosen to be in last year's Indigenous Fellows Animation Labs (the 2nd one) and I was originally so happy about it. I ended up rescinding my participation for the program days before however. 1/
A week and a half before the program got started, I got this article on my newsfeed: daily-times.com/story/news/loc…. "Navajo filmmaker Kody Dayish adds another reward". My heart dropped when I saw who gave him the award. LA Skins Fest, the one behind the Animation Labs program. 2/

I am beyond disgusted at knowing someone who I thought was simply a "creepy awkward dude" ended up being a predator targeting the underage students at his workplace as a teacher. He's an Indigenous man working at an Indigenous school which makes it even more worse.
If we don't listen to our youth and call out this shit before it continues, its going to get worse and worse. I hope those girls are safe and sound, and I'm thankful they were brave to speak out about what happened. Kudos to the school for firing him and making a statement quick.

Hey--If you're non-Indigenous and follow this artist, don't. Reconsider. So many Indigenous artists struggle with their art and trying to support themselves, then we have to see artists like this (who are non-Indigenous) using our culture as a "cool aesthetic" become well-known.
I just think about my thread about how Indigenous people are represented/drawn within Japanese media and the answer is that, with a combination of lack of knowledge and respect, easy access to our visual culture, and disregard to our struggles, artists like this can easily garner
