The Social Equity Heist: Disparity Is a Feature, Not a Bug
This isn’t about whether you agree weed should be legal or not. It’s about corruption in high places — and the failure of our elected officials.
The disparity in how marijuana has been handled didn’t start with licenses — it started with sentencing. For decades, poor and minority communities paid the steepest price. When legalization came, politicians and corporations packaged “equity” and “DEI” as the solution, promising to right past wrongs.
In reality? The rich got richer. Corporations swindled rightful equity winners out of their licenses, and the communities sold on hope were left with scraps. Missouri saw the problem and cracked down, confiscating licenses from bad actors. Arizona, on the other hand, refuses to even investigate — protecting the same players caught red-handed elsewhere.
The disparity isn’t a glitch in the system. It’s the system itself. A feature, not a bug.
