Welcome to America, where the reaction to a Black NFL player kneeling during the national anthem to raise awareness about police brutality was faced by views of a Black man disrespecting the American flag. But they fail to keep that same energy towards addressing the actual veteran homelessness and the high rate of veteran suicides despite their sacrifices in defense of their precious freedom — which raises the question of who is actually disrespectful? 👇🏾 35,574 veterans experienced homelessness on a single night in January 2023, with 20,076 sheltered and 15,507 unsheltered.

Do you guys remember the Black FedEx driver who was chased by two white men and shot at? On August 17, 2023, a Mississippi judge, David Strong, announced a mistrial in the case involving a white father and son accused of chasing and shooting at a Black FedEx driver in January 2022. The judge called for a mistrial due to errors made by Brookhaven Police Department detective Vincent Fernando. During the proceedings, Detective Fernando admitted under oath that he failed to provide the prosecution and defense with a crucial videotaped statement obtained from Gibson, leading to the declaration of the mistrial. 👇🏾Image Not to mention the driver was fired because he did not accept a part-time, non-courier job that the company offered in mid-July 2023. “They offered me a job, which I didn’t accept because of the things I still deal with daily stemming from the situation including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and random panic attacks,” “I did ask if they had any at home jobs available and they said no. Now I found out I’m fired. I just don’t think my healing should be linear to their timeline.”

Born into slavery in 1814, William Wells Brown endured a challenging upbringing marked by hard labor in St. Louis, Missouri. His life took a tragic turn when he and his mother were captured during one of their escape attempts. Sadly, his mother was forcibly transported to New Orleans, and they were forever separated.

However, Brown's indomitable spirit and determination fueled his resolve to seek freedom. On New Year's Day in 1834, he successfully escaped the clutches of slavery. Finding refuge in Buffalo, New York, Brown found employment on steamboats and became actively involved in the Underground Railroad, assisting others in their quest for freedom.

Brown's experiences as a former slave and his involvement in the Underground Railroad shaped his perspective and fueled his passion for justice. He went on to become a prominent abolitionist, lecturer, and writer, using his voice to shed light on the horrors of slavery and advocate for the rights of African Americans.

His contributions to the abolitionist movement and his literary works, such as his groundbreaking novel "Clotel," made him a significant figure in American history. Through his writings and speeches, Brown challenged the institution of slavery and fought for the equality and liberation of enslaved people.Image “People don't follow titles, they follow courage” — William Wells Brown

Are African Americans mixed? — As this is a mean average, there will be many individuals who identify as “African American” with varying degrees of African ancestry. Some may have more, while others may have less. However, there are “no” individuals with 100% African ancestry who are descended from those who where enslaved in America, as the history and genetics have revealed. 👇🏾Image African Americans have their roots mainly from the central coast of West Africa. DNA analysis, historical records, and visual observations support this. However, African Americans may not always look like native West African people as West Africans have diverse physical features and complexions. Colonialism and immigration have also contributed to a mix of ethnicities. On average, African Americans have around 80% African ancestry and 20% other.Image

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has long rejected the idea that the U.S. is a racist country. Let's take a look as to why she would lean into the rhetoric — we are starting to see more individuals from a minority group feeling compelled to abandon or suppress aspects of their own cultural identity to conform to the dominant white culture and gain acceptance from white individuals or society at large. This phenomenon is often rooted in systemic racism and the social pressure to assimilate into the dominant culture, which can lead to the erasure or devaluation of one's cultural heritage. 👇🏾Image From (2011) Indian Nikki Haley Says She Is White motherjones.com/politics/2011/…

What are concrete ways in which white supremacy is embedded in education structures today? 👇🏾 Curriculum Bias: One way white supremacy is embedded in education structures is through curriculum bias. Many educational materials and textbooks often present a Eurocentric perspective, marginalizing the contributions and experiences of non-white cultures and communities. This perpetuates a narrative that centers whiteness as the norm and reinforces white supremacy.

In my recent posts, I highlighted the longevity of the Ku Klux Klan, spanning over a century from the 1920s to the present day. This timeline serves as evidence that the notion of racists naturally dying off and hatred dissipating over time is debunked. Unfortunately, hatred is often passed down from one generation to another, perpetuating the existence of such groups. 👇🏾 ……👇🏾

The earliest evidence of African Americans working as cattle herders, commonly known as cowboys, in North America can be traced back to colonial South Carolina. Stock grazers from Senegal in West Africa were intentionally brought to the colony due to their exceptional skills in this field. Similarly, in Spanish American colonies spanning from Mexico to Argentina, individuals from Senegal were also brought to work as cattle herders, acknowledging their valuable expertise. Image As the cattle industry and the enslaved Africans who labored within it expanded and migrated across the South, they eventually reached Texas by the 1850s. At that time, with approximately one-third of the state's population consisting of enslaved workers, African Americans comprised the majority of cowboys in Texas. Their primary responsibility was to capture and care for wild cattle in the brush country of the Gulf Coast. Collaborating with vaqueros who migrated north from Mexico, these cowboys would often lead long trains of steers, with oxen guiding the way and dogs providing assistance.
