Having a messiah complex is harming your quality of life. Start saying no. Stop allowing people to use you as a backup plan, including family. Spending your life prioritizing everyone else’s needs above your own will lead to bitterness and unhappiness. You are not a sellout for joining networks that will benefit you personally and professionally. Everything you do doesn’t have to center on giving back to the community. Release that burden and live your life.

You can’t fake it until you make it in finance. You actually have to know what you are doing. The finance industry is very broad. Are we talking about working on the trading floor in Wall Street, underwriting credit risk, M&A, or accounting? I threw out a few examples. There are hundreds of roles within the industry.

Be clever about how you engage social media. I had to learn this lesson. Everyone doesn't need to know your playbook. Stop giving people ammunition to disrupt your life. I saw a tweet from a licensed professional who shared she won’t service an entire demographic. It's her private practice, so she can decide who she wants as a client. But was it prudent to share that information? She could quietly change her policy, and no one would be the wiser.

The Dunbar Village rape case was one of the most horrific crimes I’ve ever read about. What About Our Daughters covered the case extensively. Those men deserved life in prison. palmbeachpost.com/news/20191107/… People like Al Sharpton and NAACP supported these rapists instead of the victims. At the point I knew certain factions within the black community were out of their mind and didn’t care about Black Women. This case inspired many movements and social initiatives for Black Women.
