Traveling upon a long, harsh path was a journey that could not be thread lightly. Itachi had cast upon himself the burden of such treacherous terrain, but Sasuke, so much younger than his brother and ill-prepared for the fast-paced reality of the outside world, was less prepared.

I know I'm going to mess up present tense somewhere here. I know I will. I was going to write in third, and then I thought, well, no. Let's do something else that is experimental.
I will spellcheck this later, but honestly... I just want to write it through and see what happens.
It is Itachi's birthday now, so I just have to accept that I need to not completely drag on this. Nobody else is that worried about what I write. I'm not terribly fussed, either, but the universe likes to give me challenges. I just want to write a quiet little story with my tone.

The bag's flap closes shut and locks into place under my hand. Slowly, fingers free to roam as they please, I smooth the silken metal of the zipper — it was the last obstacle for leaving the building, obviously — feeling the cool surface.
