FB/Meta earnings are out. Bad news: Facebook's user base didn't grow in the 4th quarter, which is unheard of for Facebook.
Also Q1 revenue is going to be lower than analysts expected. The stock is down 18%.
Meta said in a release it is facing "increased competition for people's time."
It pointed out that one of its most popular features that is taking up user time - Reels, its TikTok clone - doesn't make a lot of money compared to News Feed or Stories

I feel like Dorsey just said something that should be said more often by these companies: Enforcing content policies is a business decision. They do this because they think its better for users and advertisers. Twitter is a business.

NEW: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is telling employees this morning they plan to hire aggressively for remote workers, and existing employees can soon request to work remote permanently. Says 50% of FB’s workforce could be remote in 5 to 10 years.
Twitter, Square, now Facebook. Tech companies are rapidly embracing remote work in the wake of Covid-19. To state the obvious: This is likely the beginning of a massive change for Silicon Valley and the Bay Area.

NEW: Bytedance is looking for a new CEO for its TikTok business. This person will be based in the U.S., and in one scenario, would run all business and operations for the company w/ product and eng remaining in China. Story w/ @sarahfrier

1/ Weird, creepy scoop from @sarahfrier: Facebook contractors have been transcribing random bits of conversation collected from FB users. They weren’t told where the clips were coming from or what the transcriptions were for bloomberg.com/news/articles/…@sarahfrier 2/ Turns out these were voice messages sent via Messenger.
