The updated "clock" chart (original by @jennifernvictor in '16, and I drew the "cleavage 2024?" line) has been getting some engagement, so I thought I'd talk about how I think about it a little bit. Here it is:

The darker black line is where I'd argue American politics is currently, meaning that line structurally defines the party coalitions. It does so imperfectly, of course, but I'd argue that it's still the primary dividing line between the Republicans and Democrats in 2024.
