1/ Lifelong Republican Mary Howard-Elley never thought her party's unfounded claims about noncitizen voting referred to people like her.

So the retired federal employee with the "whitest name you could have" was shocked when her citizenship and right to vote was questioned. Image 2/ Her saga began with a jury summons last December.

Mary said she responded to the notice by calling and asking for an exemption because she is the guardian of three of her grandkids.

Somehow, the county recorded a different exemption reason:

Not a U.S. Citizen.

NEW: @lomikriel & I spent 6 months examining active shooter training for police & schools across the US.

We ultimately found states require students & teachers to prepare for a mass shooting more than police.

The details may surprise you.

propublica.org/article/state-… 2/ Last month, the DOJ released a scathing report on the Uvalde shooting, recommending all officers have active shooter training every year.

Our analysis shows the nation is far behind.

In fact, we found no state mandates such police training annually.

NEW: A @propublica & @TexasTribune investigation found that Army soldiers accused of nonviolent crimes like:

▪️ Disobeying commanders
▪️ Drug use
▪️ Burglary

Are more than TWICE as likely to be confined ahead of trial than those accused of sexual assault.

Here's how it happens 2/ Despite congressional reforms that stripped commanders of certain judicial decisions, they retain some.

One is deciding whether accused soldiers receive pretrial confinement.

The military has no bail. So, commanders decide who is confined.

But they aren’t trained lawyers.

To gain a clear picture of the Uvalde shooting response @propublica + @TexasTribune have submitted *70* requests (and counting) for public records.

Now agencies are fighting almost every one.

Here’s what they don’t want to release: 2/ The records we've requested from local, state and federal agencies could be key to answering questions about how the shooting was handled.

Official docs like 911 calls and police footage can often confirm key details that are not always immediately released.

For example...

NEW: An investigation from @NBCNews, @propublica & @TexasTribune found February’s winter storm resulted in the largest carbon monoxide poisoning event in recent history.

No one had reported the scale and uneven impact of the poisonings. Here's how we did.
bit.ly/3vo1Bmr 2/ We used a few methods to try to understand how many people were affected by carbon monoxide.

We requested 911 calls in major cities across the state.

But not every city kept track of CO calls in the same way, so it was impossible to compare apples to apples.

1/ NEW: After the DOJ announced the indictment of Steve Bannon & three @WeBuildtheWall associates, @realDonaldTrump said he didn't know anyone involved in the project and “didn't like it.”

But We Build the Wall employees have suggested otherwise. 2/ @TheAmandaShea, CFO of We Build the Wall and the wife of one of those indicted, posted on Instagram in 2019:
“I had the absolute pleasure and honor of spending time with President Trump who had a lot of questions about the wall. ... He was impressed …”

NEW: A team of us @propublica spent many months collecting, analyzing & reporting on nearly 180 lists of accused clergy released by dioceses and religious orders in the U.S.

Our conclusion: Catholic leaders have not delivered on their promises of full transparency. THREAD @propublica 2/ Before I tell you about the shortcomings of these lists, let me tell you why they matter.

I spoke with nearly 2 dozen survivors, many who took years or decades to come forward about their abuse.

By the time they report, there are often few legal options.

NEW: Under the Trump Administration, @CMSGov bore down on the state of Idaho and ordered it to alter procedures aimed to help eligible recipients keep their Medicaid coverage.

Many with no income, the self-employed and special-needs children now face BIG new barriers. (THREAD) @CMSGov 2/ Families with Katie Beckett coverage, a type of Medicaid for children with special-needs, were especially impacted by the changes. Kids on Katie Beckett are among the nation’s most vulnerable, with complex medical needs or long-term disabilities.
