True story. My grandfather, of blessed memory, was born in 1909. He was left-handed but his teachers forced him to write with his right hand. A brilliant guy- did the NYT Sunday crossword in pen in minutes- he dropped out of school after 8th grade.

My grandfather was elated that two of his grandchildren inherited his left-handedness. "Adele, she's a lefty," he would say about me as I scribbled at his kitchen table. (He did not yet know just how correct "she's a lefty" would be).
