2024 has all the ingredients for increased stress on election security: high domestic and international stakes, new AI technologies, ongoing threats to election workers, etc. That's why yesterday's announcement from @cisajen is so welcome. cisa.gov/news-events/ne… Since 2017, @CISAgov has worked with state and local jurisdictions to combat threats in three key areas: cybersecurity; physical security; and election information. Through this work, the agency has built strong relationships with thousands of elex officials.

This morning, @brennancenter releases its national poll of local election officials conducted by @benensonstrgrp. The eye-popping results are a red light warning for our democracy. Thinking about insider threats in election security isn't new, but recent events mean we need to reconsider our plans to protect against them.

A few more thoughts on this: it's important that there is now bipartisan agreement across both chambers of Congress that states need more money to defend our election infrastructure (though to be honest, kind of incredible it's taken this long to get there). /1 The House already passed an appropriations bill for election security. It would do more than the Senate proposal. First, it would provide more money -- $600 million vs. the $250 million proposed by the Senate. /2

THREAD: A few thoughts on the huge undervote in the Florida Senate contest in Broward County. The most likely cause was either a ballot design or voting machine problem. We won't know for sure until there is a recount. But... As @whitneyq has pointed out putting a contest in the lower left hand corner of a ballot, below vertical instructions violates best practices described in the EAC/AIGA guidance on ballot design.
