Another example of a professional being misled by information at a gender conference. How many gender "experts" like this are out there, risking patients' lives?

/1 When my daughter suddenly, unexpectedly declared she was trans, a nurse I talked to said she had just attended some kind of gender training too. Based on this nurse's "education" she was confident that my daughter needed to be affirmed in her new identity.

Dr. Helen Webberley: "Our [GenderGP's] approach has always been to believe that the patient is the expert in their own gender experience, rather than the clinician....we are naturally aligned with best practise coming out of the US."

gaystarnews.com/article/what-t… via @gaystarnews Dr. Webberley appears to think highly of Dr Johanna Olson-Kennedy and US gender affirmative care.

US: cross-sex hormones for 8 yr olds, double mastectomies for 13 yr olds, hysterectomies for 16 yr olds, genital surgeries for <18 yr olds. This is not something to strive for.

Admission that some inexperienced surgeons are performing complicated genital surgeries:

"...severely undertrained surgeons have started to enter the specialty to help meet the demand..."

health.usnews.com/health-care/fo… The article mentions a letter addressed to WPATH, written by a group of concerned patients who have undergone genital surgeries. Link to the letter: wpathopenletter.wordpress.com

I'm really tired of people chastising parents, accusing us of not allowing our kids to "explore their gender." Like it's a wonderful journey, so special and full of sparkles and rainbows.

Well, my daughter "explored her gender" for a while and was absolutely miserable. /1 Not because I was restricting her in clothing, haircuts, or interests. (I didn't.) But because she got the idea in her head (thanks Tumblr) that testosterone would make her feel better. And I said, "Hold on, let's think things through." /2
