When the Texas Rangers arrived on the scene the day of the shooting.. the Uvalde ISD Police Officer initially stated that he engaged the shooter. (This wasn’t a sworn statement.) Later during the official interview the Uvalde ISD Police Officer provided a official statement to the Texas Rangers stating that he DID NOT engage the shooter. In fact, he saw a person in the distance that he perceived to be the shooter but was actually a school staff member.
