Why Uber is not a marketplace.

1. A marketplace (MP) is a venue which brings together willing buyers and sellers, generally taking a flat rate or small percentage from one or the other. The buyers and sellers choose each other.

1/ What happens when a rider requests a ride? They are told a price BEFORE meeting their "seller." If they select a ride they are assigned a driver.

What happens when a driver logs on? He waits until he's assigned a rider, and told how much he'll make after the ride is over.

First, there is a huge problem out there, unknown to most people: there is an underclass of people abused by employers. No minimum wage, no workers compensation, no social security. The problem is typified by Uber/Lyft 2/

but it includes serving staff at restaurants, customer service personnel, phone bank workers, etc., etc.

In the last five years I've seen scores of people inside this abuse. They include dispatchers for a large medical transportation company, bar staff at a craft brewery,
