One thing I will say is that you can entirely separate critiques of England’s tactics with points about the high level of individual quality, and the latter ought to be celebrated and is part of the cultural change Southgate helped implement.
The EPPP came in 13 years ago. Academies got restructured, coaching improved. Sports science was implemented, analysis became formalised. Practitioners became smarter and players better. Now you’ve got outstanding technicians coming through across the board
