Happy Presidents’ Day!! 🇺🇸🥳

A day in which we honor the 46 men that have served as the Chief Executive of the United States.

I hope you’ll enjoy this thread of little-known facts about each of our presidents!

Let’s start with the man considered the father of our country… When George Washington was born on 2/22/1732, the Virginia colonies used the Julian calendar. They later adopted the current Gregorian calendar. This resulted in dates being moved back 11 days. Washington preferred the original 2-22, the date his birthday is still celebrated on.

I don’t want to alarm anyone and perhaps I’m just being paranoid, but I’m pretty sure my cat is trying to kill me.😩 I mean…how many times is he going to bolt past me as I start walking down the stairs and then stop right in the middle of the staircase? I can’t tell you how many times he’s “accidentally” tripped me.

I’m sure you’ve all seen a portrait or picture of a famous leader or military figure in the “hand in waistcoat” pose. Much like Rod, some of you may have asked yourself: “Why are they posed like that?”

Is there special meaning to a hand inside one’s jacket or uniform?🤔

Well… Image Not really.

This pose has been used dating all the way back to 6th Century B.C, but started to be used more by artists at the beginning of the 18th century.

It’s use became extremely widespread in Europe in the mid to late 1800s as leaders such as Napoleon Bonaparte were Image

According to a @GettysburgNMP Ranger, there’ve been nearly 1,000 battle related artifacts unearthed since restoration work started on Little Round Top in July.

Most of these are Confederate ordnance pieces & minié balls fired by southern infantry.

Can’t wait to see everything! Image Here is a good example of a minié ball unearthed after many years. I own a couple of these and they aren’t particularly rare. You can buy them online or walk into a shop in Gettysburg and pay a few bucks for one. They are roughly 2 - 2.5 inches long. Image

The bedroom in which Abraham Lincoln put the finishing touches on “The Gettysburg Address” during the night of November 18, 1863.

This is the actual bed Lincoln slept in before delivering the most famous speech in American history. Image The bedroom is located in a house that was owned by David Wills at the time. The house is located in “Lincoln Square,” which is at the very center of Gettysburg.

This photo taken in 1885 shows the house as it looked during Lincoln’s stay there. Image

Sallie-Anne kisses the hero she is named after.

Sallie was the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry & marched into the fighting with them during every battle.

She has been immortalized at the base of the 11th PA monument in Gettysburg.

Thanks to @CindyBeaston for the pic! The monument in honor of the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry is one of the favorites of many Gettysburg tourists. Dog biscuits & treats are often left for Sallie as a way for some to show their respect for this courageous & loyal dog.

Abraham Lincoln owned two cats while he was POTUS. Gifted by Secretary of State William Seward, Lincoln named them Tabby & Dixie.

He also regularly fed and took in stray cats.

So, if you’re a cat lover, I suppose this is just one more reason to love Abraham Lincoln! During a formal White House dinner, President Lincoln was seen feeding his cat from the table.

His wife admonished him for using a golden fork to feed the cat.

In response, Lincoln said “If the gold fork was good enough for James Buchanan, I think it’s good enough for Tabby.”

THREAD 👀

I’ve always promised to be honest with you so here’s the truth:

@LaurenBoebert has A TON of money in her campaign war chest. She gets lots of FREE time on right-wing media outlets every day. She’s going to be extremely hard to beat.

However, she CAN be defeated. 1/11 Not only can she be defeated, she MUST be defeated.

The very future of our country & our democracy is in peril thanks to politicians like Boebert. She uses fear & demagoguery to win votes. She lies on an hourly basis and feeds her audience disinformation & misinformation. 2/11

11 years ago today, I was sitting on the pavement of a Walgreens parking lot in handcuffs. As was my daily routine, I had handed over $120 to “my guy” so he could go get a couple 80mg OxyContins for me.

But, what I was unaware of, on this day there were two undercover police officers watching my every move. After about a half hour of waiting, I decided to do a little shopping in the store…I bought a candle, a pack of gum, and a few other treats. Upon returning to my car, I got in & turned on the ignition. At that moment, I noticed a beat-up

This is the ULTIMATE thread of classic @SteveSchmidtSES savage takedowns & political takes.

I’ll be adding new videos often.

Sit back, relax, & enjoy the show!

In this video from May of 2020, Steve reveals the precise word to describe Donald Trump 😂 Donald Trump is the greatest failure in the history of the United States. September of 2020.

Courage is contagious. That’s damn right.

I hope you will all take Steve’s courage as inspiration to do courageous things in defense of our democracy and in your own life.

I’m not just talking about what he’s done the past two days. I’m talking about what he and many other Republicans have had the guts to do over the last six years. They put country over party. They put allegiance to America over allegiance to a man. They did all this when it would have been SO much easier to simply toe the line, stay quiet, and simply worry about themselves.

On this day in 1775, the first battles of the American Revolution were fought.

Near sunrise in Lexington, MA , a militia of “minutemen” met around 700 British regulars that were advancing to destroy colonial military supplies in the town of Concord.

To this day, it is not known who fired the first shot of this skirmish, but a brief battle followed that resulted in eight colonial minutemen being killed.

The British continued their march to Concord, breaking into smaller companies to search for colonial military supplies.

This is a great thread from @SteveSchmidtSES and is an example of why I look to him for guidance so much in this extremely turbulent time in American history.

He gets it. He sees with much clarity how we must navigate through this turbulence & WHO can help lead us in doing it. America is at a critical moment and desperately needs serious men & women with integrity & undying resolve to combat those that will lie, cheat, & steal for their own political gain at the expensive of America’s democratic system. We need people to believe in. We need people that

We look to history as a guide to the future. This, I believe, is one of the reasons we are in so much trouble in America. Instead of learning about history, most Americans are more interested in the latest reality show or their sports team. Enjoying those things is fine, but they have taken center stage in all forms of media. We care more about the latest Hollywood scandal than we do about the rise of authoritarianism in the world. For the most part, Americans are oblivious to the dangers that surround them. Making matters worse, we have right wing

2020 was the worst year of my life. I suffered a severe lung infection which left me hospitalized for a month and required months of recovery.

I ended a long-term relationship with my girlfriend. I had raised & loved her daughter as if she was my own. On her 4th birthday, they moved away to Florida & all contact with her has been severed.

I don’t care about my ex, but I miss her daughter so much every single day. The toll of all that sent me spiraling into a severe depression. I had no reason to wake up in the morning. I had all but given up on life

It seems to me that many Americans are caught up in nostalgia. “Make America Great Again” was & is their rallying cry.

But…when we take a hard look at America’s past…who was it really great for?

Don’t get me wrong, America has done more good & freed more people around the world than any other nation in human history.

But…what about life here in America? What was great about America for people of color? For gay people? For people with disabilities?

Many look back in time and remember mostly good things and block out a lot of the bad. I think

While many think Hillary was robbed, and the vote margin was razor thin in 3 states, Hillary did the right thing for America. She conceded the very next day after the election was called. She has integrity, she cares about American Democracy. Trump & the GOP clearly do not… When you look for evidence pointing towards Trump’s authoritarian nature & the GOPs total complicity & obedience to their leader, look no further than Trump refusing to concede & the GOP being too weak to stand up for democracy as Clinton did in 2016. Americans needs to WAKE UP

Oh, how I wish more Americans would wake up to the reality that currently faces us. Steve is awake to it, I’m awake to it, and those of you reading this tweet are awake to it.

However, we live in an America where many people are more interested in what’s happening on a reality TV show than ACTUAL reality. Who lazily believe every bit of fake news, misinformation, & conspiracy theories they see on Facebook rather than listen to scientists & health care experts. We are at a terrifying moment in history where craziness & lunacy is now becoming mainstream.

It can not be understated how much of a positive impact @ProjectLincoln had on getting rid of Donald Trump in 2020.

Speaking for myself, they inspired me to fight like I’ve never fought before when it came to politics.

They armed me with facts & talking points that UNDOUBTEDLY helped me garner support for Joe Biden among friends & family that either voted for Trump in 2016 or didn’t vote at all. I’m sure my story is not an aberration.

@ProjectLincoln MADE A DIFFERENCE in 2020. They have certainly made their fair share of mistakes along the way, but

The Republican Party is driving chaos at the same time they are selling order. All right-wing authoritarian movements do this. They drive chaos & then promise to restore order with easy scape goats. It’s hard to overstate the magnitude of this crisis. @SteveSchmidtSES @maddow Part 2

Here are my scars. The scars of three chest tubes & several incisions into the side of my torso. I laid in a hospital bed for a month recovering from a surgery that saved my life from a severe lung infection. It took me months to recover physically & even longer to recover mentally. An eternal optimist, I took a very positive thing out of that horrible experience. A renewed passion for life. A true sense of how wonderful, glorious, & fragile a human life is. It took me a long time, but I have never been happier. I have never been more thankful
