On November 15th, Messi had just gotten injured a few days prior, Franck Ribery’s France lost 2-0 to Ukraine in the first round of the WCQ playoffs, and Ronaldo’s Portugal beat Sweden 1-0 in their playoff match with him scoring the lone goal. It was at this time when FIFA told the jury the deadline would be extended. With Messi being injured, Ribery and France’s World Cup qualification on the line, it was quite clear who was this going to benefit.
