My first undergrad class of the fall term is tomorrow. Here are things I hope my students know as we begin.
🧵 1. Please come to office hours to ask me questions, even questions that are answered on the syllabus. I know it's sometimes intimidating to talk to the prof, so if it feels low-stress to ask about something like a due date or grading policy, I'm just happy for the chance to chat.

UofT has announced a 1.3% salary raise for all tenure-stream faculty members who are women. I’m grateful for the raise, and I’m also grateful that as a tenured full professor I have the freedom to offer the following critical commentary. 1/N utoronto.ca/news/u-t-imple… The 1.3% raise is based on a regression model that included outcome variables on the right-hand side that are themselves prone to implicit bias, such as rank, indicators for chairs and professorships, and “other relevant factors”. 2/N
