there is a whole book about how the NYT basically buried coverage of the Holocaust as a matter of policy. something it seems they are still doing today with the eugenics of the pandemic and all the ongoing genocides!!

okay for people who talk about the trauma of being kinda isolated while the news actually paid attention to a fraction of how bad things were- your conception of the world is based on the vibes from corporate news and algorithms, and you are completely unprepared to face reality. yes the world is really messed and scary and awful, and in order to fix that we need to face it and support each other through the pain, not memory hole reality and pray that your privilege at the top of global pyramid of consumption will shield you from tragedy forever.

worth pointing out that the study didn't even IQ as a metric, but mentioned IQ briefly in the discussion. people reporting the study for a wider audience have zeroed in on the IQ equivalent, seemingly in an attempt to make the results comprehensible to a wider audience. (1/23) the problem is that popular understandings of IQ and intelligence and how it is assumed to determine one's place in society are just completely busted and eugenicist and classist and racist (and have been used to justify horrible things).
