May 1938. England play Germany in Berlin. The British Government told the FA to order players to do the Nazi salute. The photo remains infamous.

Absent from the photo is Wolves legend Stan Cullis. When told to acknowledge Nazism he replied:

"Count me out"

He was dropped. /1 🧡 a young stan cullis with co... Cullis wasn't the first English player who felt refusing to provide legitimacy to Nazism was important. Earlier, in 1934, Derby County were pressured by British diplomats to also do the Nazi salute while on a German tour.

Our one cool trick to get round this has been politely refusing offers to play under the name of a men's team again.

Seaward forever. βš“βœŠπŸ˜† Of course, this brings new challenges.

Understandably, bigger named men's clubs often make playing under their brand, and sacrificing ownership or control, a condition of providing access to additional support - lostical and financial.

Today is #InternationalWomensDay, so we figure today is a good day to talk to you a bit about something that most non-female players don't even think about.

These things. Football socks.

Football socks are a certified enemy of women's football. Here's why. /1 #IWD23 #football anakin talking to padme meme. First panel is anakin saying & Let's start with the basics:

Women's feet are different to mens'. Everything from the heel-to-ball length, ball circumference. Ratio of medial and lateral malleoli heights. Our calf height/shape differs, too.

Loads of science on this. Google "women's feet."

So, continuing our post-Euros look at the major, addressable issues for women's football in the UK, let's talk about the absolute horror show that is...

Pitch access.

For training AND official matches.

And how even us @FAWNL clubs, struggle to get it. /1 🧡 seaward players sweating buckets training on a training pitc Women's clubs don't own our own grounds. And unless you partner with a 'big' men's club, you don't have guaranteed access to pitches (even then it's not guaranteed).

This places us at a huge disadvantage. Because we need pitches to play (obviously) but also to TRAIN.
