Whilst racialisation (i.e. the process by which groups and individuals come to be seen as part of a distinct 'race') involves cultural and biological assumptions, we spend far more time explaining the process of 'cultural' rather than 'biological'/'hereditary' racialisation. 1/ For instance, it is generally accepted by a wide variety of people on the left that race is a social construct insofar as it involves lumping together and 'pathologising' a variety of different cultural practices and behaviours. 2/

It's worth considering why anti-migration arguments have such potency when couched in supposedly pragmatic terms of 'viability'; 'space' etc It's tempting to dismiss this as entirely the product of right-wing 'scapegoating', but it runs deeper than that.
