Please read. It’s long. Sorry l. Bare with me 🙏😮💨❤️
Last week, can only be described as the infliction of a moral injury.
The sexual abuse of children at my former workplace is sickening. There is nothing new to me in the @Tasmania_COI report. There is, a lot that isn’t in there due to procedural fairness regarding criminal referrals.
What we did learn, is that the @Tasmania_COI have been at odds with the @RockliffTeam for months fighting to be able to make the misconduct findings they needed to, to hold people to account and keep the community safe.
We learnt that the Tasmanian COI act, prevented them from making these findings. And the @RockliffTeam refused to work with them to change it.
We learnt that Tas legislation has also been used to stop disciplinary processes, and other investigatory processes from statuatory bodies too, with the State defending many senior staff who knew of and allowed abuse to occur. They paid 1.6 million in their legal fees, in fact.
We learnt that our own evidence, is inadmissible in future legal proceedings.
We learnt that amendments to the COI act, were passed AFTER this commission was announced, and privacy laws about sexual offenders were strengthened.
We learnt, that this last few years of excruciating pain for so many, has been a heinous cover up.
The @Tasmania_COI have acted with the utmost integrity, despite learning they were being stitched up. They’ve done an INCREDIBLE job, and I am ETERNALLY grateful.
I wouldn’t have got through this week without @WilkieMP, whose integrity and humanity has been a lifeline more than once, @jackmdavenport whose sharp mind, calm demeanour and warm heart is an ever comforting force. @bluemarbleeyes for her own sacrifices, for the sake of goodness, to be there for those of us who need her. @TiffanySkeggs for her extraordinary strength, courage, sense of humour and heart, her friendship and brutal (hilarious) honesty. @AzraBeach for her big heart, hilarious wit, commitment to the kids in OOHC despite the harm it causes herself. @Zero2Say for your friendship, for providing support just because it is right. Without a second thought, when we needed it most. @West007Amanda for your grounding earth mama presence and words, for lifting others up when your own pain is unimaginable… @RobinskiTas for your commitment to supporting us, and seeing this horror through. @rosaliewoodruff for holding my hand when I couldn’t keep it in any longer and lost it crying in parliament. We have always had a home in the greens office, and I adore you all. @bec_white for taking the time to talk, listen, and fight on our behalf when we are so damned angry and devastated to do it ourselves. For your integrity and kindness, for letting politics come second, to this issue. @KrisJJohnston for checking in, and offering support. @DavidOByrneMP for asking the tough questions, and also taking the time to hear us. For being honest, and kind @jeremyrockliff for your frankness on Tuesday, for being human, for crying with us all. @BridgetArcherMP for your empathy, kindness and messages of support. You’re among the best of us.
@MegWebbTweets for the exact same, for your unwavering fearlessness in bringing a focus on integrity back into the fore. Your kindness and work, is deeply appreciated.
What this tells me, is that we have a big group of people, and their teams on the same page. Willing to put child safety above politics. So, please, please do.
Do the work urgently required to hold ppl to account and make permanent changes to ensure this NEVER happens again. The widespread child sexual abuse, but the worst cover up I’m aware of, too.
@thedugganaut_ @DavidJKillick @lucy_macdonald1 @rykgoddard @SeanPFord1 @Elliott_IAE @NickFeik @Ageinvestigates I value you all, more than words can say. The pressure you’re carrying, and I know you carry it professionally and personally is profound. We rely on you to be our voices, and you do so, spectacularly. With integrity and heart.
1/2 🙏
What we now know is that the very senior public servants who escaped misconduct findings, are appear to have behaved corruptly (possibly criminally) and placed themselves above the Victim Survivors of abuse. The staff in offices of the AG and OSG who legislatively backed this, ought to resign in shame. The treasurer who funded the legal defence of these very senior enablers, should too.
I know when I became aware of this nearly inconceivably evil legislative stitch up, and when the COI did. The impact that realisation would have had on the @Tasmania_COI team is heartbreaking to think of. ❤️❤️❤️ We know you did EVERYTHING you could.
The AG and OSG fought against the COI not with them. As did some (CERTAINLY not all) heads of agencies.
When did the rest of @RockliffTeam learn of it?
Section 33 has been weaponised to protect offenders and enablers. It’s been used to block disciplinary and other proceedings. @RockliffTeam paid for many of the lawyers arguing this.
They didn’t pay for mine… do you need to have perpetrated or enabled child abuse to qualify? I reported it, so deserved to nearly lose our house to cover legal costs yeah?
Section 18 has been used to prevent adverse findings. (29/30 in fact - it says so in the report)
Section 21 makes all coi evidence inadmissible in future proceedings.
Does that include civil proceedings? criminal?!
This week, was meant to be the end of a treacherous road.
It’s instead, proven to be the most devastating yet. We believed you, a lot of us helped you. As you knew, that we would never see accountability occur.
I don’t know how you can make this right @RockliffTeam. But you need to please, find a way, fast. These revelations, carry significant risk to people’s safety. I’ve spared the more disgusting details for that reason. Lives are in your hands.
We believed you. You said you’d implement the 191 recommendations, you said you’d act on misconduct findings. You didn’t mention you were actively FIGHTING to disallow the COI from making them.
Please, allies, good people out there, we need help. Please read the coi report, the reporting on this. It is a national disgrace, and needs to be treated as one. But we are tired.
I need to try to reconcile, that the thousands of pages of evidence I provided over thousands of hours with the COI, has been in vain. So many hours away from my babies ‘because I needed to do the right thing’, only to learn that the same people who enabled child sexual abuse at my workplace, were enabling a protection racket. It’s soul destroying. I hope the kids know I tried. So damn hard.
Thankyou to the kind staff at Parliament in Hobart. You were noticed and appreciated.
Thankyou to the lawyers and advocates who have fought for us and with us along the way. There are many. ❤️
To the Tasmanian community who have walked this path with us 🥹 You’re amazing. Please don’t give up. I look forward to dinners and laughs with you soon. There’s some special Australians outside of Tassie who have joined the fight too ✨
To ALL Victim survivors in Tasmania, those still with us and those who are not, you’re loved, seen, valued.
#australia please, tune in. Help #tasmania. The people deserve more, the children deserve more.
AYDC is open. 11/12 kids are on remand there, and at acute risk right now.
*I’m sorry if I’ve missed ppl 😣 I’m a sleep deprived mess.* 2/2

This time, in 2019, I was so excited to have landed the job of my dreams. Working to reform a youth detention centre, embedding therapeutic practices - making it safer and more rehabilitative for vulnerable children.
It meant moving to Tasmania, which we loved! It’s so… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
This time, in 2020 I was waiting (with a little confusion) to see an appropriate response to reports that I’d made regarding serious alleged sexual abuse occuring within the centre. Alledgedly perpetrated and enabled by senior staff. I knew by then the centre was rotten. I didn’t… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Today has been alot 😢
A court hearing where @RockliffTeam said they will seek all details & docs regarding abuse I survived 25 years ago to fight my WC claim due to my workplace being a child abuse cesspit.
Prior, an invite to a ‘settlement’ conference on Monday. #politas 1/5
They will fly me to Hobart, unsure if health will permit yet. Unsure if I can take more cruelty when I’ve done nothing wrong & am sick.
I was injured reporting Child Sexual Abuse at AYDC. @Tasmania_COI
Will they listen to medical advice? Or seek to break me more? #politas 2/5

Ministers,
In this process (that should not be occurring as I should be safe at work either not seeing child sexual abuse or supported to report it)
I’ve been surveilled with my children.
I’ve been followed.
I’ve been gaslit, threatened & lied to by the MOST senior staff.
1/10
I’ve been retraumatised.
I’ve had the State knowingly caused harm to me.
I’ve been manipulated.
I’ve been threatened.
I’ve had my income ceased for no reason, many times.
I’ve had to pay legal fees to have it reinstated.
I’ve been taken urgently to hospital twice.

The proposed apology to be held at Parliament & requiring registration is grossly ignorant of the fact that the majority of Victim Survivors are from AYDC & OOHC - and may struggle with literacy, enclosed spaces, authoritative ppl & buildings - even using computers to register 1/
This apology must be accessible to those it is for. Why is it in your safe space not theirs? Why is it not open to all? Will there be opportunities to respond? That is an important part of offering a meaningful apology. What will you do now, to build the foundations needed.. 2/

@RockliffTeam,
As you try to apologise for CSA in Tas - you’re putting me through court to force a 5th psych eval for an injury incurred at AYDC. Dr shopping & psychological torture. We have 4 reports. But they don’t say what you want.
Shame on you. @WilkieMP @MegWebbTweets 1/
You know I’ll fight it - I have to. My treaters have said I cannot safely endure it. You know this, but push ahead anyway. To harm me?
If this isn’t reprisal for blowing the whistle on CSA I don’t know what is.
Read the AYDC transcripts. You’ll see my name hundreds of times. 2/
They request this immediately be rectified. #politas 1/5
They also request this apology is made outside Parliament. This is not an opportunity to score points by putting it on the record.
This is an opportunity to speak to the broken hearts of the most courageous individuals in the State (certainly not limited to the above named) 2/5

It has been a horrendous week. I’d like to share what I’m feeling & thinking.
Please note that I have worked with AYDC survivors, I am a survivor & the woman at the heart of this conversation is a dear friend of mine who I have watched be broken, repeatedly, this week. 🧵👇
I am inherently biased in this moment. However, I hope to balance this with my professional views as a reform & best practice consultant who is specialised in Trauma Informed Practices.
She is young. Hopeful. Courageous. She reached out, in the hope of answers & healing👇
