Long before the protests in Colombia, NYU, and other universities, and before the current suppression of free speech on campuses around the world, the National Union of Students in the UK (@nusuk) decided to sack their democratically elected President for exercising her right to express her pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist beliefs. Beliefs that they themselves acknowledge are protected by law.

We warned at the time that this discriminatory act was only the beginning of the suppression and silencing of pro-Palestinian activists. No one listened. The "cancel culture" crowd remained silent, and those who championed free speech looked the other way.

Yesterday it was revealed in The Times that the investigation and the subsequent legal challenge had cost the Union over £1 million pounds. Money that could have been better spent representing students.

The National Union of Students should hang its head in shame. As should all those who have enabled the draconian crackdown on students and advocates for Palestine whose message is simple: End the genocide, end apartheid, and free Palestine.
