Today, in a city where more than a third of the residents are impoverished, billionaire Dan Gilbert is asking Detroit for an additional $60 million in tax breaks for his long-delayed high-rise project at the Hudson's site. Five of the nine council members who are expected to vote on the tax handout received sizable donations from Gilbert. This is the same billionaire who donated heavily to Trump's campaign.

Detroit police are about to hold a press conference about their handling of the protest over the weekend – the one where five protesters were taken to the hospital because they were struck with batons and fists. Chief Craig insists protests were trying to set up a Seattle-type zone. "I am not going to let any group set up a Seattle-type zone of lawlessness in the cit of Detroit. That is non negotiable."

Breaking down this myth in a few tweets: Because Democrats have led lower-income cities, they are to blame. False. African Americans, fleeing Jim Crow, came to industrial cities to the north looking for jobs. Instead, they were confronted with more racism. Black people were forced into segregated areas with bad housing and education options, and they were paid less and given the worst jobs. In mid-1930s, to lift America out of the Great Depression, federally funded programs were created, and most were denied to Black people.

Reporters have got to stop relaying Trump’s false statements about the four freshmen congresswomen without fact-checking his statements. His rhetoric is dangerous, sloppy & slanderous. He clearly wants to paint Democrats as extreme & out of touch. ... Trump continues to claim the four congresswomen are “anti-American” and have said “terrible things” about the country. No one is pressing him on what those “terrible things” are because it’s utter nonsense. But it prompts racist “send her back” chants.
