THREAD:
The scans I did years ago for the "Sono Go no Sengoku Majin GoShogun" image album are heavily outdated by my standards of today, so I bought a new copy and re-scanned it. Restored by a friend of mine.
Starting off with the front cover, illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. Next up is the back cover, featuring some chibi illustrations of Shingo, Killy, Bundle, Remy, and Cuttnal's pet crow.
Drawn by Ai Naniwa (なにわあい).

Bit late on this, but...
Last weekend I got the chance to watch Tenet in a (safely regulated & socially distanced) theater with some friends.
I am officially never watching another Christopher Nolan movie in theaters ever again, and I'm officially swearing by that. You THINK he would've learned his lesson with the whole audio-mixing stuff after Interstellar, but nope.
The mixing on this was so horribly done that, besides maybe the first 10 min and the movie's ending, I LITERALLY couldn't understand or make out any of the film's dialogue

Gonna be posting some HQ scans of the Royal Space Force Memorial Laserdisc set that included the unreleased BGM as a bonus, plus the early pilot trailer and a special deleted scene.
Starting off with the front & back cover scans of the box that the LDs come in. ImageImage Front & back covers of the 1st Laserdisc cover sleeve included in the box set...this one contains the pilot trailer and the beginning of the movie. ImageImage

So Izotope recently released a new version of their RX audio software...some of you might already know that I use this for my vinyl digital restoration projects.
They improved the vocal remover module in the new version, and HOLY SHIT it works SO much better than before!! It's still far from perfect but works much better than what RX7 was capable of.
Here's a track from Cat's Eye to demonstrate! "Stranger's Eyes" by Cathi Linn, which if I recall correctly still doesn't have a karaoke version.

Every time I see the TV LP soundtrack for "Stop!! Hibari-kun" go up for auction I'm ALWAYS seeing bids placed on it.
Why??
Anyways I've been wanting to get it myself for some time now but I have such mixed feelings about the content in it. Image Not a surprise since Pony Canyon published the OST but the BGM selection here is handled just absolutely HORRIBLY. Yes there's a lot of BGM tracks in it but does it really matter when 95% of them are literally single tracks that last between 20 to 60 seconds?

Got some new records yesterday. Just like my last haul I'm only posting pics of the "highlights" from the haul, or at the very least what would prob interest more people.
Starting off with...Koichi Sugiyama's soundtrack to Syrius no Densetsu 😍😍😍 Image Next one's a late 70s LP-only funk album from Polydor Records.
@invaderalex Ring a bell? 🤠 Image

Few days late on this. But some time ago I happened to come into possession of an extremely rare Japanese LP...one that would make the heads of thousands of European funk boomer collectors scream 🥸 🤭
I present to you: "Body Pressure" by Sho Nuff! Image The history/context behind this release isn't anything extraordinary if I have to be honest. Basically Sho Nuff was an obscure American funk band (from Mississippi I think) that released some music in the US before somehow making a Japan-only exclusive LP. No CD release as of yet

Ok, so I figured I'd do just other highlights of the other music I got today. Most of them were citypop private pressings but realistically speaking I don't think they're recognizable to anyone 😅
Starting off with this rare vinyl-only 7-inch single by Hiroyuki Namba! Image Next single...
Would you guys believe me if I told you that Shigesato Itoi—yes, THAT one, the one behind the Mother series—self-published a rare late 70s single?
I *think* this was used for a CM? I have no clue, but this isn't on CD anywhere. Arranged by Akira Inoue 🧠 Image

Last year I uploaded some sample tracks from an 80s Japanese funk LP I own. The LP isn't too rare but since it's LP-only it's undoubtedly less easier to get than if it were, say, on CD.
Last night the artist of that album commented on my sample tracks on YT, and... ...in a surprising turn of events (or well, maybe not so surprising since I've had this happen before) she requested if I could record & upload a certain track from that LP, as she had been apparently looking for it online for some time now 😜🥸
Who would've thought?

Just saying: if TLV actually focused on re-issuing other old anime scores that wasn't just, y'know...ONLY horror...don't take my word for it but I'm sure there would probably be more interest in re-issuing anime scores here in the US I understand not re-issuing an old score for an anime that's never been licensed here in the US, especially if it's obscure—would prob mean that it financially wouldn't sell. But a US re-issue of Megazone 23 or Leda? With unreleased BGM? I'd GLADLY buy in an instant

Got a new subbing update for you all. Sadly I'm not proud of this one 😅
I'll start with the good news first:
I just handed over episode 3 of Galatt to somebody for translation QLCing. Rest assured I'm still working on it.
Unfortunately I have to put Galatt on hold afterwards 🙃 All of my available translators that I had access to are currently unavailable for the moment and will stay like that for quite some time, so unless I find a new translator willing to help out I can't really progress with this at all.

Genuinely never saw myself planning this at some point. But I may be starting a digital restoration project for a certain Macross vinyl soon 👀 I have this image album for the DYRL movie that contains some lovely classical music by Kentaro Haneda 🤠 (I'm REALLY hoping most of you have checked it out at some point!!)
There's a CD release but it's been out of print since the 80s. Ridiculously expensive too Image

Bit late on this. Figured I'd post my LP haul from Tuesday.
Starting off with the image albums I got:
-Justy
-Some Futureland late 80s release
-Image album based off a work of Keiko Takemiya. It's alright, but the instrumental tracks have dialogue 😩😤 Image The soundtracks:
-Bug tte Honey (mostly a drama album. Features two tracks and some original drama dialogue that's not on the show's BGM CD release)
-Karuizawa Syndrome OST
-Soundtrack for some live-action Japanese movie that I have not yet researched 😂 Image

Month & a half ago I discovered a music tournament that Budweiser (yes, THAT one) held throughout the 80s called the "Budweiser Showdown: Tournament of Jams". Considering the company that held it, you think there'd be plenty of info online about it...
There isn't 🙃 Image Basically you had these people competing for cash prizes by recording their own songs and sending it in to Budweiser. Some competed by performing in front of various judges.
Sadly there isn't much historical info on this at all, aside from this clip:

Today may have gotten off to a bad start. But at least this finally came in the mail today 😊
A while ago I tweeted about a rare LP soundtrack for a (partially) lost TV anime special MIC did—one track from this OST was later re-used in Srungle.
Well, it's here!!! Image The insert sleeve contains pics of the musicians during the recording sessions for this OST, was not expecting this at all 👀
Here's Chikara Ueda (RIP) and some other musicians. ImageImage

God, I seriously can't believe I'm typing this out right now.
Someone notified me that one of the producers of the Royal Space Force anime isn't happy about me uploading my LD rip of the full BGM online. Dude tweeted that he'll "see if he can get the courts involved".
BRUH MOMENT I'm going to be completely honest with you.
Looking at it from the perspective of the japanese, I COMPLETELY understand if these tracks were somehow still being re-issued and sold to this day.
Notice how I said "re-issued and sold to this day."

Last year I subbed an 80s Japanese live-action SF film starring Momoko Kikuchi. I uploaded it onto YT to make it more accessible since it's still hard to get ahold of physically to some extent.
Today it got striked down by some person who I literally can't find any info on 🙃 Image Film's been out of print since the 2000s—there's a DVD release but it's not standalone. It's only part of some "Eternal" CD+DVD collection that you have to spend a hefty amount of money to even get ahold of it. The LDs and VHS versions don't show up often too Image

So I mentioned previously that I've been looking for a rare TV anime special produced by MIC (J9, Galvion) titled "Doctor Norman Monogatari"—a VHS release exists but it's never been auctioned off online.
Still haven't found it, but I just won something related to it. (Not the EP) Image The anime special has an INCREDIBLY rare LP OST that hasn't been auctioned off since 2016. I have a 7-inch single for the anime that contains two tracks from said OST but I used to think that 7-inch single was all that was released.
Anyways...I'm proud to announce I won the LP 🌚 ImageImageImage

Gosh it's been such a long time since I provided any sub updates. 💀
・Asuka Gumi OVA 1 is *almost* done—the dude that translated this for me left lots of translation & grammar errors in this, had to take time myself to fix said grammar issues & to get someone else to QC this [1] Anyways all that's left is to get the song lyrics changed to make 'em more liberal, have one more person QC some lines I'm still having trouble with, and this should finally be ready for release afterwards.
・Galatt 03 is still being worked on btw. [2]

Got some new LPs today. I'll discard the private presses I got for this thread (except for one) but I'll slowly tread through them with short descriptions of 'em. Starting off with...an LP-only citypop album by Frieza's voice actor LOL. Image Next up:
-A rare 70s LP w/synth versions of songs by Simon & Garfunkel, arranged by Osamu Shoji.
-The only vocal LP by Ankh—these people sang the theme song for Tezuka's Fumoon anime. 95% of the LP is arranged by Shiro Sagisu 👀
(^Thanks to @mitchell_n_hang to discovering it!) Image
