On Nov. 10, Israeli authorities blocked, without explanation, the medical evacuation of eight children and their caretakers from Gaza who are in need of medical care, including a two-year-old with leg amputations, to the MSF hospital in Jordan. We strongly denounce this decision.
“It's utterly shocking and outrageous that children who need essential treatment are being blocked by Israel from leaving #Gaza. Israel’s denial of urgent medical evacuations defies reason and humanity.” says Moeen Mahmood, MSF country director in Jordan.

Medical needs are overwhelming in #Gaza.
In the four weeks since opening our second field hospital in Deir Al Balah, we carried out 10,962 outpatient consultations, 40% of whom were children under 14.
Today, our teams expanded activities to include pediatric hospitalization.
We already see many children suffering from skin and respiratory tract infections - a direct result of the dire living conditions in the overcrowded camps. With winter approaching, we anticipate being overwhelmed by the number of severely ill children requiring specialized care.

As Israeli forces continue to bomb Gaza, the health system is on its knees. Today, MSF opened a second field hospital in Deir Al Balah and have begun outpatient consultations. The expansion of other services depends on Israeli authorities, who have delayed supplies entering Gaza.
The new field hospital is only needed due to the destruction of the healthcare system.
The best way to provide care for the population in #Gaza is to protect and support the existing facilities while allowing safe access to them.

Following intense bombings by Israeli forces this Saturday morning in the Middle Area of #Gaza, our teams are working along medical staff at Al-Aqsa and Nasser hospitals to treat an overwhelming number of severely injured patients, many of whom are women and children.
"It's a nightmare at Al-Aqsa. There have been back-to-back mass casualties as densely populated areas are bombed. It’s way beyond what anyone could deal with in a functional hospital, let alone with the scarce resources we have here,” says Samuel Johann, MSF coordinator in Gaza.

Why is MSF calling on #Canada to ensure public spending on medical R&D is used for public health and not private profits? Because we have seen how it can save lives. A thread about #Ebola, Canadian science and the failure of the private sector. 1/12 bit.ly/3hF6WQn#DidYouKnow that Canadian government scientists first developed an #Ebola vaccine as early as 2001 — but that it was still not available more than a decade later to help end the West Africa Ebola epidemic that killed thousands of people between 2014-16?
