If we are attacked, the executive, our president, can act quickly to defend us. But we should never enter a war willy-nilly. It should be a matter of serious, public, and—yes—Congressional debate.

"[The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To declare War. . ." I understand the sophistication of next-gen war-fighting, asymmetric warfare, and kinetic incursions. But an educated citizenry should, in their conscience, recognize that while these things are real, these terms can and do become something more than mere descriptions. They can be used as military jargon designed to remove or side-step the common sense judgments of the people and their representatives with regard to deliberations and decisions concerning war and peace.

1. So, I have a couple thoughts on Mayor Pete's crime against crime statistics on FOX News.

Granted, I'm biased, since my brother was shot during the Summer of Floyd in Mayor Pete's South Bend, while he was mayor, and going soft on riot, beating, and, then, murder (attempted and completed) for fear of appearing racist.

That said... 2. First, I think it is important to remember that arguments about crime levels are only arguments about crime *statistics*, that is, *reported* crimes.

Everyone knows that things have gotten woolier and friskier on our city streets under Biden.

1. My innocent baby brother was shot and nearly killed (and permanently crippled) by a random gang initiation during the police stand-down in the summer of George Floyd riots...

...precisely four years to the day before Trump was shot in the ear in an attempted assassination.

2. That summer before the 2020 election, many voices in the media egged on misunderstanding, lies, and rage, in order to fan the flames of real political violence. Democrat-aligned media called the torching of people's shops and the beating of people's bodies a form of speech.

Please pray for our 2nd daughter (12yo). She had a v. serious accident in a swim team diving drill & broke three vertebrae but especially C1, which was broken so badly that we’ve been told (& shown in various ways) that they are unused to treating a non-paraplegic w/ this break. 2. She is in extreme pain, & she will require the full “jump-to-conclusions”halo head brace to avoid paralysis etc.
Please pray for her healing, safety, and perseverance in pain.

Prudence is the particular virtue of the statesman, and the particular art of the statesman is rhetoric. & the ultimate use of rhetoric, in the great tradition of self-government, has always been the ability to persuade an angry people to calm themselves and live in peace.
