Today, the @CIJ_ICJ will deliver its order on SA's request for provisional measures in its application against Israel on the application of the Genocide Convention.

SA's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, as the country's principal agent, is in the Court. Recall:
• Context
• Genocidal intent & impact on human rights
• Jurisdiction
• Urgency & irreparable prejudice to the rights
• Provisional measures

Purpose of any measures:
1. Prevent further harm
2. Preserve integrity of the proceedings

The last time @CyrilRamaphosa addressed the nation within less than 16 days was in December 2020.
At the time, the country was facing its hardest COVID-19 season yet.
The country's Minister of Health was not on leave, special or otherwise.

Some things change, others…? Nope 🥲😬 We are 15 months into the national state of disaster declared in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many lives have been lost.
Many are struggling to cope with the huge impact the pandemic has had on lives.
People concerned about restrictions, but the pandemic rages on.

Not that it matters, but at 'worst' a party secretary general can suspend a party president for some time.
Such unilateral suspension has no bearing on the role of the party president as the country's president (if they also hold that position).

Parliament removes presidents. Also, FYI, the ANC Constitution places the authority to suspend on the NEC, NWC, PEC or PWC.
None of these abbreviations stand for Secretary General, but I bet you already knew that.

One abbreviation (let's call it IOL) clearly wants the unquestioning public to think otherwise.

President @CyrilRamaphosa's first address since the lockdown started in SA.
• The decision to lockdown was correct & confirmed by researchers & scientists
• South African have - for the most part - have responded reasonably & positively by staying at home, exercising care… • Number of deaths now at 3.
• Number of infections continue to grow. 1326 cases in SA to date.
• STAY AT HOME for the next 17 days. Only leave if you need to get food, essential provisions or medicine; collect grants; get urgent healthcare.

#CoronaVirusSA National Address:
President @CyrilRamaphosa calls the coronavirus a 'grave public emergency' & commends South Africans for their efforts so far to help curb the spread of the virus. A reminder to thank the people on the frontlines: health-workers, teachers, border officials, police etc. as they take on heaviest burden of the immense challenge we face.

Everyone must continue to come together - 'wash hands, avoid contact, stay at home, avoid public places…'

Today, the @ConCourtSA determined that a person can be guilty of rape where they themselves do not commit the act, but were part of a common plan that included rape.

This application of the doctrine of common purpose to gang rape is so key. @ConCourtSA Simply: If a gang of 'friends' plans to commit crimes together & some of them rape, as a gang they are all perpetrators of the rape (not just 'accessories' or bystanders)

Standing by as 'lookouts' or whatever does not absolve any of them.
