🧵 Rachel Maddow: "I have a question for business people, or for business-minded people, or even just for people who say that business issues and economic issues are their main concern. That's what's driving them as they think about this election." (1/10) For people who consider their vote to be a business decision, do they mean, "Who will do a better job handling the economy?" Because... (2/10)

. @jonstewart decries the way right-wing media insulates Republican viewers to keep Republican politicians from accountability. "There's an information silo." "Y'know they keep talking about, boy, there's a recruitment problem in the Army because of the pronouns they're using. It's not the pronouns. It's that young people see that this government doesn't live up to its obligations to its fighters. It's as simple as that." @jonstewart

Dr. Fauci explains that a PCR test can tell you if you're infected but can't tell you whether you're transmissible. "The only way you can tell if it's transmissible is if you can show that there' really is live replication virus in you. And the tests don't measure that." "We're trying to prevent people from getting sick." Dr. Fauci notes that even though case numbers can be a useful predictor, when illness from the virus is less severe (as appears to be the case with Omicron), hospitalizations becomes a more important metric than infections.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse on questions about whether someone else was behind Jeffrey Clark, former acting assistant attorney general for the Civil Division, advocating for Trump's Big Lie:

"It's a little hard to imagine that he cooked this up on his own."

@SenWhitehouse "They would have these contentious conversations with him and then come back wondering who was helping him in these efforts and where are these legal theories coming from?" NYT's Katie Benner on the sense from interview transcripts that Jeff Clark was not acting independently.
