We hope it becomes 1 of many royalty protection tools. 2/ Solana’s community has been waiting for a resolution on royalties.

When we went to optional royalties mid Oct, we said we hoped to soon return to a royalty respecting world. However, royalties needed protection at the protocol level to be truly defensible.

1/ 🧵 Recently, we have been evaluating royalty-enforcement solutions so that we can find ways to support them. The stakes are high, the solutions require deeper exploration, but here’s where we’re at: 2/ Royalty-enforcement solutions have trade-offs. Adopting them requires us to rethink what “ownership” means. The concept would have to become more conditional, where creators would retain some rights to alter an NFT's functions depending on user behavior.

Effective later today, we will also begin running a promotion to waive our platform fees. 📣 2/ In addition, we will launch a Creator Monetization Hackathon to develop pro-royalty & alternative creator monetization tools.
