Lost Cause meet Crazy Cause: using Juneteenth to tear down of the San Fran. statue of Ulysses S. Grant —who won the Civil War that led to emancipation, long before had freed the 1 slave he had been given & who was later eulogized by Frederick Douglass

Grant was a man of his time, imperfect. But other men were slave owners, defenders of slavery. Had not Grant taken charge of the Union Army & begun defeating Lee in 1864, it could’ve easily led to the defeat of Prez Lincoln by McLellan, who wanted peace w/a slave-owning South
Grant’s presidency had big trouble, but got the 15th Amend passed, he crushed the 1st iteration of the KKK & he tried reforming U.S. Indian policy

Later, when Prussia’s leader told him he had had to save the Union,
Grant said:

“Not only save the Union, but destroy slavery”

Tucker Carlson almost compared Trump to Nero for being too weak to stop the vandalism that erupted amid the the George Floyd protests.

But the FOX host stopped short, saying he liked the president's strong response announced Monday evening in the Rose Garden
Tucker: "No 1 has more contempt for Donald Trump's voters than Jared Kushner does & no 1 expresses it more frequently...[Trump's] famously sharp instincts...have been since subverted at every level by Jared Kushner...on immigration, foreign policy & especially on law enforcement"
Carlson says Trump wanted to "crackdown on rioters...but every time he has been talked out of it by Jared Kushner & by aides that Kushner has hired & controls."

Trump's White House press briefing lie: "California...settled with Judicial watch saying that a million people should not have been voting...they agreed that a million people should not have voted"
That was debunked before: bit.ly/2VcPIiP
It's 1 thing for Trump to say this wildly false statement about voter fraud once, but he's saying it again after it was debunked. Note: Judicial Watch denied making the claim, saying it's "Not ours...Just some random person misinterpreting" bit.ly/2RooB38 2/5
The California issue concerned LA voter rolls, which contained nearly 1.6m inactive voters. LA wasn't ensuring that these voters were still legit under the National Voter Registration Act.

That's not voter fraud. Here's the settlement:

Former FL Democratic candidate for governor Andrew Gillum was in a Miami Beach hotel room last night where a man had "a possible drug overdose," according to a police report.

The report doesnt say Gillum possessed or used illegal drugs. Here's what we know re: the report 1/x
2: "Gillum was unable to communicate with officers due to his inebriated state" the report says

It's unclear what that inebriation is and if, like a lot of folks on Miami Beach, he got drunk and wound up somewhere that harder stuff was being used.

Indeed...
3: Report: "officers observed in plain sight three small clear plastic baggies containing suspected crystal meth on both the bed and floor of the hotel room."

The hotel room was rented by the other man, so if there were drugs, it's legally hard to charge Gillum w/it

The ‘Sandersnista’ revolution sparks Florida Democratic panic

politi.co/2TfotDd
This is a long-form story packed with polling and other data.

In Democrat/Latino-rich Miami-Dade County, Sanders could have significant struggles

politi.co/2TfotDd
Florida Latinos differ from those in other states (in part because of the diversity of places of origin)

Interesting that @realDonaldTrump deleted this tweet accusing @MikeBloomberg of being a “total racist” and didn’t repost (which he often does if there’s an error he wants to fix)

The dead link is here: twitter.com/realdonaldtrum

And yes, I reposted this because of my own typo in a now-deleted tweet

These facts can’t be unspun:

1) @NWSBirmingham was right when it said Sept. 1 that Alabama “will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian”.

2) @realDonaldTrump was wrong Sept. 1 for saying AL “will most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated”

3/8 @NOAA’s statement is right that @NWSBirmingham spoke in “absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time”

But so did the President & then some. Ultimately he was wrong & NWS was right. @noaa is silent about that

New Hampshire open ballot: Biden 33%, Sanders 12%, Warren’s 11% etc

NH head-2-head: Biden 66%, Sanders 22%

South Carolina open: Biden 37%, Sanders 10%, Warren 8% etc

SC head to head: Biden 70%, Sanders 15% via @TelOpinion poll

In heavily white New Hampshire, Biden’s support cuts across every demographic
In heavily black South Carolina, Biden’s support cuts across every demographic (look at the relatively outsized support of African-Americans & esp black women over 55)

A new POTENTIAL name emerges as the 2nd FL county election office where Russians hacked voter rolls: Sumter

It’s a mega-Republican county home to The Villages retirement community 1/4
2/4 The other FL county where hackers gained access to a voter-reg database was likely Washington

There was speculation that the 2nd county was a midsized county on the East Coast

Sumter doesn’t match that description. But it sure might be the 2nd

Fresh off failing to effectively stop Russian meddling in the 2016 elections, the FBI tells FL Gov. DeSantis that 2 counties' voter reg systems were hacked that year.

Which ones? They won't say.

That's right: Florida voters have no right to learn this info. And there's more 1/4
Despite DeSantis & the FBI saying no votes were changed & there was nothing more, should we believe them?

Remember: if a person's voter reg is messed with, it can prevent him from voting. Did this happen? We don't know because the government won't tell the public the truth 2/4
When Sen Bill Nelson rightly said in 2018 that Russians had penetrated some FL counties elections depts, the FBI refused to confirm it. His opponent Gov Rick Scott (whose appointee ran the state elections division) & the GOP mocked Nelson as "confused"

Scott won. Nelson lost

Something very strange happened in Broward County.
I've never seen a top-of-the-ticket U.S. Senate race get fewer votes than EVERY OTHER statewide election.

So more voters wanted to weigh in on governor AND attorney general AND state CFO AND agriculture commissioner?
How can the US Senate race have MORE votes statewide than the three Florida Cabinet races but FEWER votes in Broward?

The likely culprits: either poor ballot design (Sen race was tucked below instructions near the bottom corner of the first of many pages) or tabulation error
Though there are issues in Broward, we can't say it cost Sen Nelson the race

Nelson's trailing by 17,344 votes (.021%) statewide

BUT IF the Brow gov race totals were applied to the Sen race but vote share remained constant, Nelson trails by 7,483 (0.09%)

So this is big

In Broward County, Miramar Elementary School teacher Lakeisha Sorey came across a box labeled “Provisional ballots” left behind at the school from Election Day & she’s concerned it might have votes. She didn’t look in the box because she didn’t want to tamper with it
Sorey: “I wasn’t touching it. I don’t want anybody to say I tampered with anything. But I want to make sure that if there are votes in there that they’re counted”

“It makes me question everything that’s going on—just the fact that I want every1’s vote 2B counted”
Sorey said she spotted the box before leaving school about 4 p.m. She spoke to her principal who advised her not to touch it. She also spoke later to a state rep who referred her to me

If the MAGA bomber is indeed Cesar Sayoc, as law enforcement source are now telling multiple media outlets, he’s a registered Miami-Dade County Republican who registered in 2016 and voted early in both the primary and the general in 2016.
Tweet corrects county of residence. He has a Broward mailing address but is registered in Dade
We’re still learning more about the suspect. There are strong indications that this is his Twitter account, which matches his 1st & last name & often discusses his Native American heritage (he owned a co called Native American Catering & Vending)

Florida mass shootings

8/26/18 Jacksonville Landing, 4 killed, 8 injured (developing)
2/14/18 Marjory Stoneman HS, Parkland: 17 killed, 17 injured
6/5/17 Fiamma, Orlando: 5 killed
1/6/17 Fort Lauderdale airport: 5 killed, 6 injured
6/12/16 Pulse Orlando: 49 killed, 53 injured
Note, these don't include two recent shootings:

8/24/18 Raines HS football game, Jacksonville: 1 dead, 2 injured
8/17/18 Dwyer HS football game, Wellington: 2 shot
And this is the grim milestone, Florida. I can't keep track of mass shootings in the state and the number of them since 2016 exceeds the character limit of Twitter

6/11/18 Orlando apartment complex: 4 children, plus the shooter

We’ve found it —the dumbest school board in the United States
A little background: the school board released a report last week and tried to redact it. But the district is so incompetent that it screwed it up the redactions and @SunSentinel was able to report new truths about how the school district failed Cruz

bit.ly/2Kxz6Lh
The hidden portion of the redacted report also showed that Broward’s school superintendent, Robert Runcie, gave inaccurate info to the press claiming Cruz didn’t want services. Actually, Cruz did. And the school district messed it up

So @browardsheriff Sheriff Scott Israel repeatedly has said the school cop onscene should have engaged the shooter.

But his own "active shooter" protocol does not require engagement from the 1st deputy. It says he "may" (not "shall") engage

politi.co/2CiuskB
Also, note that the protocol above contemplates a deputy or deputies as "The Deputy Contact Team" as being able to "continue" in this capacity until SWAT arrives.

What does "continue" mean? Why does this not say "shall" engage as the sheriff suggests it should? BSO won't say
I've repeatedly asked @browardsheriff PIO office generally and @bso_veda specifically for answers to these simple questions about the active shooter protocol.

But I've gotten no answer, though they've replied to other questions sent @ same time.

I tried again this morning

The armed school resource officer at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School responded to the shooting BUT NEVER WENT IN for “upward or 4 minutes” while the gunmen killed people, said Sheriff Scott Israel.
“Never went in” Sheriff said. Officer “clearly” could hear gunfire

Sheriff: “Devastated.Sick to my stomach. There are no words. These families lost their children. We lost coaches. I’ve been to the funerals. I’ve been to the homes where they sit in shiva. I’ve been to the vigils”
Sheriff Scott Israel said Officer Scott Peterson failed by waiting outside the Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS building for about 4 of 6 minutes while Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people

What should Peterson have done

Israel: “Went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer”

1 of 10" In 2012, I looked into this fishy story about about Broward's Sheriff allegedly forcing a woman to get an abortion. Now we have new information that strongly suggests she's...wait for it...a paid actor.

Yup. A crisis actor, if you will, being pushed by the far right
2. Who's this woman being dragged out to bash the Broward sheriff now that he's (again) calling for gun control after a mass shooting (again) in his county?

Don't know

But she has a long history of hawking shady products online and making suspect claims.
3. Here she is hawking How to "Lose Weight Fast Without Exercise"
