I was recently told that I need to be "liberated" from thinking that covid is still dangerous to my high risk family and worth masking for. I reflected on this, and realized it's the other way around.

Masking brings me many kinds of liberty I never had pre-pandemic... 1/6 A woman sitting indoors wearing a black cap, glasses, and a beige Rackmask on a Zimi 9541 frame. Liberty from all illness; haven't even had a standard stuffy nose type cold since 2022. It's awesome.

Liberty from caring about what others think. 2/6

Masks, sound, speech, and accessibility, a thread! 🧵

I'm a professor. I teach in a mask. First video I am in a 3M Aura, second in a clear-front Omnimask with a mic attached, third is Omnimask with a speech diaphragm modification plus the mic. Take a quick listen to each: 1/

The Aura, and the amplified Omnimask with a speech diaphragm, are both clear, but the Omnimask alone sounds muffled even with the mic due to the exhalation valve. How to fix this? 2/

Steps to get a Masked Monday event to happen at a local museum for your covid cautious community:

1. Reach out and ask! As a bonus, if you can, add a little social pressure by mentioning other museums that you've heard of doing this recently.

1/ A woman wearing a black cap, a black Breatheteq mask with a headstrap modification, and a black tank top saying "If you see a mask, wear a mask" in a science museum.
A sign outside a museum saying "Welcome to Masked Monday! 2 PM - 5 PM, masks required ages 3+, $10.00 admission ages 2+."
2. If they're receptive, set up a video call to talk logistics. Get a planning buddy to help you if you can, or just talk to them directly.
