With time, I realised my parents' insistence on my undergrad against my foolish insistence of quitting school to start a band🫠

I see my dad's logic on a fallback plan,in spite of degrees not being an assurances of success. I saw how society treats people without one even when.. It's not necessary to the specific work at hand.

I saw how degrees are the bare minimum entry point as a performance of competence or at least average intelligence in spaces everywhere

I'm watching the Winnie Odinga interview and she's complaining about the oppressed and silenced class of politicians children?🥲😂 She's really said that no one has an issue when a Kenyan hands over their business (shop) to their children or their children's children so why do they hold a double standard for politicians and their children?☠️☠️☠️

When teaching your children about career options, teach them about alternative careers eg teach them how to scare away elephants/rhinos, steal their calves, start a trust/foundation/orphanage and charge people $15 per hour to see them.

Our children need to be entrepreneurial. Teach your children about entrepreneurial options like grabbing land through conservancies/trusts, while simultaneously grifting global funding to the tune of tens of millions of dollars and setting up a private militia to enforce it and kill any errant natives who oppose you

Whoever is leading the next government is inheriting a hollow shell.

The fuel subsidies are delaying the real cost of fuel-KES 200+/L and maizemeal subsidies are delaying the real cost of unga at KES 250+Add on the ballooning debt and refinancing acrobatics GOK has been playing The subsidies are being implemented at best to avoid upheaval and discontent just before the elections but no one's addressing the real reason behind the rapid inflation and cost of living against the stagnation in real wages, which has been on for a while.

That GK Nyambura story reminds me of a similar incident two years ago where my neighbour's ex came back "for her clothes" and refused to leave until curfew time reached and then now said it was too late to get home 😂 I was cooking and heard noise and his kitchen window was open and I saw him pushing her so I went to his place to figure out what was going on and intervene and when I got there it was just drama. A reminder to me never to do that again.

Anyang's Nyongo's flippancy about health workers is interesting considering he is public about his battle with cancer, which he has gotten treatment for abroad.

Back in 2012,Kenya's two health ministers-Nyong'o and Beth Mugo both went public about their cancer diagnosis.... In 2010, Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, Minister for Medical Services was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. Beth Mugo, Minister for Public Health and Sanitation was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I remember being broke and for a fleeting moment wondering what it would feel like to get a rich older woman to sponsor me😬 I was completely out of financial options and couldn't figure out what else to do and I was already in debt and I couldn't see another way forward😂

I was in a discussion about the collapse of Nakumatt I mused about the fact that Nakumatt owned nothing. Nothing at all. Not a pencil nor a shoe. Nothing. Neither did their owners and that's part of the reasons creditors couldn't get anything back and that got me thinking... How were they allowed to operate that way and how would entities at that size, supermarkets be allowed to operate that way?

When we talk about regulatory interventions, shouldn't this include protections for creditors and stakeholders at large?

@RookieKE talked about the meme-ification of our president as possibly being an intentional ploy by his own team. I think that it's not only plausible but part of the bigger plan to help him appear friendlier and more relatable but also excusably incompetent So think back to George W Bush. He was a genuine idiot but people felt that that could sit down and have a beer with him😄

People were distracted away from his stupidity with his relatability but he also had the goofy reputation, which allowed him leeway when he messed up

Conversations on racism in African countries didn't just come up

We had been just been silenced for so long.

There's always someone to justify your racist experience, someone to poverty shame you in some way and make you feel embarrassed for speaking out. There's always that person caping for the whiteness they wish they possessed.

White men have unpaid foot soldiers in form of black men with two shillings in their pocket and access to white spaces.

The ones who will tell you that " you're not the target audience"

Today I would love to hear about women about their experiences with gynaes or around sexual reproductive health because I feel that men don't really understand(or want to) exactly what women go through

RT

#FormNiGani Specifically, what have your bad experiences been with gynaes? I've realised men feel that women are exaggerating when they talk about their experiences

Can we talk about him as a sexual predator because he raped countless women who could never speak up.

There was a joke about him being the principal of all girls schools. It wasn't really a joke. My dad's boss' "Njuguna" wife was raped by him multiple times. He would just show up to the house and station his bodyguards outside.

Njuguna had heard rumours about him and her until one day he came home and found the bodyguards and was told to take a walk

A few years back a female friend called me because a cop from Parklands Police Station had forcefully gotten in her car. She had refused to bribe him so he got in and ordered her to drive to the station.

#FreeAtty She initially refused to let him in but he insisted, threatened her and forcefully got in to her car. She called me while driving there and she kept on talking through the drive telling me to meet her there but insisting that I should stay on the phone.

Re: King Kaka and the DCI.

People underestimate how state machinery is used by the government to silence people.

A few years ago after a few ominous phone calls, we pulled down articles we had published which were on Corruption and governance We were working on pieces on corruption using publicly available information and what we were trying to do was to tie the dots and show the relationship between corruption scandals and certain individuals going way up including information we had gotten on company ownership

Short Thread.

I'm curious about Kenya's Integrated population registration system(IPRS)system which is theoretically "a one stop shop for all the population data-the single source of truth for population of all Kenyan and foreign resident in Kenya" according to @ImmigrationDept I needed an ID replacement a few weeks back and that went as smoothly and I had my new ID within two weeks. The problem came up when I needed to register for something using the ID. Many orgs eg banks verify your ID with the govt through direct access to the IPRS system

This whole story on cons reminds me about the way I almost got conned by @CiikuKabura last year pretending that she had been arrested 😂

I found out she had conned at least 2 other people, too.

I kept all the screenshots 😂

Thread We met on Twitter, random conversation here and there.

She convinced me that she worked at the Norfolk as the Executive Chef 😂

(I later called them and CinCin is a bar not restaurant and the whole hotel doesn't have an Executive Chef)

How did you find out that your parents were separating/ getting divorced? Just before I left high school to go home, the deputy head teacher called me to tell me that I would meet my mom at the Njuguna's bus stop when coming from school ( school was past Nakuru) I got there and she was waiting for me which was odd.

Many men are raising kids who aren't theirs. Statistically, women aren't too far behind on the cheating competition and they're closing the gap rapidly. DNA testing has become cheaper. Do it. Everyone thinks that they're the exception. You're probably not

#MasculinityKE Women are punished more by society for cheating and thus they've evolved to hiding it much better because of the cost of being caught. No one believes that their girl is cheating on them yet they know that women cheat, too.

An article and thread by @dnahinga on affordable housing has led me down a rabbit hole imagining a day when I'll be able to buy a house in Kenya without looting, massive loans, killing, mismanagement or doing all four through becoming president.

*THREAD* Here's the article that inspired the thought. It left me with more questions than answers but that's why I liked it - it leaves us with a lot of thinking to do.

Dear gentlemen,

What are the things that made you feel like a man, while you were younger and don't matter at all now?

*Short thread on what mine were*

RT. #MasculinityKE 1. A beard. My dad has a beard he would shave daily and so that was an ultimate dream. I would practice using his shaver from when I was around 7 😂 I struggled growing a beard and it finally bloomed at 23 😂
My first beard hair was at 12. I went to tell my mom😂
