🧵 Here’s a short thread explaining why the Ford government’s move today is history-making and extremely alarming. It’s DEFCON 1 for all workers. 1/ It is a fundamental right in Canada for workers to be allowed to form unions and to collectively bargain with their employer for their contracts. Withdrawing their labour (i.e., striking) is a protected action as well. 2/

As the disappointing results of last night’s municipal election are still settling in, I would like to propose a paradigm shift for progressives hoping to make some change for the better in Ottawa and hopefully across Canada. 1/ This will be a longer thread, but hopefully worth your time. And yes, it does eventually connect back to the Convoy and the OPS memo @_llebrun has just unearthed. It’s also about a lot more than just Ottawa. 2/

A *lot* is happening right now in world politics but I want to focus in on what Chrystia Freeland has been up to and why everyone should be paying attention to her right now. A long 🧵 Chrystia Freeland has very publicly blown up Canada and the Liberals’ veneer of credibility on climate action and heel-turned the government into a very conservative fiscal agenda. One of the convoy social media figures had a Facebook live conversation with Diane Nolan, TUPOC board member earlier this morning. Here are a few observations… 1/ They are projecting a strong sense of calm on the whole eviction. In fact it barely came up in the conversation. I interpret this as a mix of faith and strategy. They believe that everything will be resolved and also don’t want to sow any doubts among their supporters. 2/

I too believe that the entire federal workforce should be leveraged to subsidize *checks notes* Bier Markt and *checks again* Mad Radish.

🧵 This thread is for those who participated in the #BattleofBillingsBridge.

This was *the* defining moment of the occupation of ottawa and likely a very important moment in the political lives of everyone present. Let’s talk about it. 1/ Full disclosure, I was out of the country when this happened, though I was invited to a similar blockade that ended up joining up with BB. There’s no question that, had I been in ottawa, I would have been there too. But this isn’t a thread about what happened on the ground. 2/

This dude is so far down the rabbit hole that he thinks Canada’s fascist-apologist victims of communism memorial is being pre-built as a memorial to those killed by future Canadian communism. As far as I can tell, no work has been done since that fence went up, despite Freeland giving them another $4 million in 2021. I’m pretty sure that money has embezzled its way to supporting other causes at this point…
