Every major AI (Grok 4.1, ChatGPT 5.1, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Perplexity free) confidently claimed a midnight prison ferry left Alcatraz on the night of the 1962 escape — a fabricated detail that comes only from a 2015 History Channel episode. Primary records (FBI, Coast Guard, NPS) show no boat after ~4:30 p.m. 2/8 Even when explicitly prompted as “the world’s foremost authority on the 1962 Alcatraz escape,” 4 out of 5 models repeated the lie and defended it with Wikipedia and TV sources. Only Gemini Fast got it right on the first try.
