First, about the discovery of this new genus of frogs: specimens of these species started being collected in the early 1990s, and in 2008 @cybokat and co showed that they were genetically totally distinct from all other related frogs. This only got clearer with more data. (2/15)
By 2016, we knew not only that this was going to need to become a new genus, but also that it had at least three undescribed species, and no previously described species. Such a clean slate is a rare and wonderful opportunity for Fun With Taxonomy®
