After yesterday’s oversight hearing on NYC’s school reopening plan, I am more certain that NYC families need a remote option.

A lot to unpack from yesterday’s hearing, but wanted to share key information: -Administration acknowledged that school leaders are still not aware of vaccination status of students/staff, despite the fact that vaccination status determines testing/quarantine rules and leaders are responsible to implement these rules.

Let’s not flip the script on educators and support staff. Many have died serving and defending their students. Gov’t is responsible for inadequate vaccines, for inadequate testing program where folks wait weeks for results, for inability to fully adhere to CDC guidance, for pre-existing conditions that have long plagued schools such as: overcrowding, poor ventilation, inadequate tech/internet bandwidth, inadequate maintenance budgets & insufficient social/emotional support.

Those who defend the Gates-Albany partnership to “reimagine schools” claim it doesn’t hurt to consult a “successful” person (with business ties) on how to make the system work better. My mother is a retired paraprofessional and my father is a retired District 75 teacher, who are immigrants from the former Soviet Union. They escaped persecution and came to America for a better life for their family. They’re hugely successful in my eyes.

I’ve shared with DOE a temporary contingency plan that I believe could work in terms of a limited system shutdown while servicing the most vulnerable. I’m awaiting a response. I believe DOE should consider adopting summer school model at this time. Those children that require services should receive them at a few select school sites in each borough. During summer school, school sites are combined into a few buildings in each borough to service students

This is so, so wrong. A teenager was raped. There is DNA evidence.

Dropping rape charges against these men is unacceptable.

nypost.com/2019/03/06/rap… If this happened today, because of the closure of the loophole in the Penal Code, it would automatically be considered rape, no questions. A lesser charge simply isn't justice.
