New people are coming on here all the time. Not e'one knows the truth about Hillsborough. The Inquests ended 5 years ago, the disaster was 32 years ago. As one of the lawyers who was present throughout the entire case this thread is to help those who want to learn @RichieG_LFC1. Soon after the disaster the police started a false narrative to divert blame from them onto the fans. SYP alleged fans were drunk, badly behaved, late and many didn't have tickets. The CCTV footage from the day and other evidence proved this was false. @DamianKav

Y’day the PM derided lefty human rights, do-gooder lawyers for hamstringing the criminal justice system. No detail was given of course, just the PM indulging his taste for sweeping statements with no factual basis. Let me tell you what one such lawyer was doing yesterday.
My colleague was due to start a trial acting for a very vulnerable client. At court as they waited she took an overdose of drugs. He tried with some success to prevent her from taking all the drugs she intended to take.

There's a silly petition going round calling for life sentences for anyone who kills a police officer, firefighter etc. This is in response to the sentences on the three young men who killed PC Harper. Here is why this is a silly and pointless petition:
The petition doesn't appear to make any distinction between murder and manslaughter.
The law already requires that anyone who commits any murder will if convicted get a life sentence, whoever the victim is. That is the only sentence for murder. The law doesn't need changing.

Yesterday Thanks to my colleague @CrimeGirI I was named as a "stirrer of discontent". Why might that be the case? Let me explain. In a career that has now lasted 40+years I have seen an assault on the rights of those accused of crime, all presumed innocent under the law
The requirement for the judge to warn juries about the lack of corroboration was abolished, the right to silence emasculated, hearsay evidence and bad character evidence allowed, police allowed onto juries and cross-examination curtailed by s.41 and now s28 xx in advance
