THREAD ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ: I keep seeing tweets from people afraid the slogan "defund police" will hurt the movement because it will alienate moderates and Fox "News" watchers. Some are suggesting "demilitarize police" instead. Let's talk. My list @ end.
First, FN watchers won't be behind BLM no matter what. Second, police were killing long before they got tanks. Demilitarization is one small necessary step among many. Third, let's talk about what all we need to do & what "defund" means.
I don't have all the answers, don't remotely claim to, so please keep throwing better ideas out here to see what will stick. We've never had a police system that wasn't racist & sexist, so we need to reimagine with big ideas, not just increment small changes.
