The state has now rested its case against Karmelo Anthony. We had heard rumors that Hunter Metcalf might be testifying today, but the state is now done calling witnesses. Then the judge asked Karmelo's defense team what was next.
Defense asked for the court to move to a direct verdict. That's a motion asking a judge to rule in their favor before a case is submitted to the jury, arguing that the opposing side has legally failed to present enough evidence to prove their claim
Judge said no.
Then the judge asked the defense what's next. They said they didn't know and we are now taking a break.
Defense is now calling its first witness: Adam Linwood, a football and track coach at Centennial High School where Karmelo Anthony attended.

We are back in court for the afternoon session in the Karmelo Anthony trial. The judge has just asked the media NOT to identify upcoming witnesses who are minors. We were not told who the minors are or what they will be testifying to.

New state witness, Coach Rob Starr, the head track coach at Memorial High School where Austin Metcalf went to school. He is testifying about track culture and how the tent was a big deal. Each school has a tent with their name, logo on it, and kids who don't belong to that school do NOT go to the tents of other schools.
"As far as the tent specifically--basically the tent marks your spot," Starr said.
"What the tent represents is kind of like your bench. Think of it like a football or basketball bench. That tent is a safe area for your team."
Starr added that the student athletes keep their belonging/valuables under the tent, and sometimes, a coach is even assigned to stay the tent to keep on eye on belongings/kids.
"It is a big deal to keep people out from underneath your tent,' Starr says.
