This is not getting as much attention today, but a group of Proud Boys attacked a drag queen story hour event yesterday and threatened the queen reading to kids. She had to hide with security until cops came. According to her IG story, they were wearing shirts that said “AK 47” The natural end result of @FoxNews and other anti-LGBTQ media constantly fearmongering about “groomers” and drag queen story hours is violence. If these media outlets don’t stop attacking our community with misinformation, someone is going to get hurt. It has to stop.

As a journalist who used this @WilliamsPolicy data for years, I can attest that it's not a shock to see the ESTIMATE (bc there is no actual population data) go from 1.4m in 2016 to 1.6m now.

Percentage wise, the number of trans people has gone *down* from 0.6% to 0.5%. The NYT could instead point out that there's no history of population data actually including LGBTQ people, and that the estimate on trans youth only appears to have risen bc Williams has access to new survey streams—AKA we *have* numbers on trans youth for the first time ever

BREAKING: The ACLU has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a Texas parent who was placed on leave last week from her job at DFPS—because she has a transgender child.

The plaintiff's own employer sent investigators to her home in response to Abbott's order.
aclu.org/legal-document… On Feb 24, "Jane Doe was informed that her family would be investigated in accordance with Gov. Abbott's letter"...to determine if the parents had "committed abuse" by accepting their transgender daughter, the suit reads

Pretty pissed reading reports that Substack is giving quarter-mil advances to anti-LGBTQ writers. When I launched Outsourced last fall, I emailed asking about the “writer resources” being offered at the time for new launches, and was told everyone was too busy to even talk to me. To clarify, the resources being advertised were not financial. They just offered to talk to new substack writers for guidance and mentorship on how to develop the best business plan. I thought at most I would get a phone call or a couple of emails, but was simply told no.

Media needs to adjust their headlines on this to include the fact that Romney's proposal:

* eradicates welfare ENTIRELY
* cuts food stamps by $3.1 billion
* gets rid of tax credits for parents
* eliminates head-of-household status
* "promotes marriage"

Is that worth one check? Romney's proposal also cuts the Earned Income Tax Credit by over $45 billion. It's called the 'Family Security Act,' but it takes away the only available safety nets for the countless low-income families and single parents in America.

Personally I find it very disappointing when journalists write lengthy stories about trans issues—such as inclusion in sports—without ever quoting a single trans person or reaching out to a single trans advocacy group. Please, media, do not do this. This isn't a callout of anyone in particular, but an ongoing trend. It happened with the trans military ban reversal and is going to happen more with this Women's Sports Working Group. Trans voices are consistently left out of coverage of issues that directly impact their lives.

BREAKING: Investors and shareholders worth a collective $620 billion sent letters to @Nike @FedEx and @PepsiCo asking the brands to divest from the Washington @Redskins unless the team agrees to change its name. adweek.com/brand-marketin… The investor letter to @PepsiCo, for example, cites the company’s “decision to sunset the Aunt Jemima brand is an important and meaningful step,” and calls on it to continue that commitment to divesting from racist mascots by ending its relationship with the Redskins.

She L I T E R A L L Y says over and over and over that she does not agree with Farrakhan and points out her 20-year history of organizing alongside Jewish activists.

Why is everyone demanding that this woman be held responsible for a man she doesn’t represent or work with? The consistent reaching to try to smear Mallory and Sarsour has been happening throughout their entire careers and takes focus away from the incredible organizing work they’ve done. It’s messed up and we should talk about it more.

This person was paid $23 million a year to be a public disaster. And yet I was pulled into a meeting at NBC News one day and told they “just don’t need an LGBT reporter” and was being let go, regardless of how much traffic my stories were getting. I want to clarify this had nothing to do with NBC Out which is a separate team and is 100% great (though the company could put way more resources behind it). And I was able to move into a role at MSNBC, but not as an LGBT reporter.
