Last night, flash floods washed away roads, opened sink holes and destroyed buildings in Worcester County. It’s devastating.

I’m declaring a state of emergency so we can mobilize all our resources. Here’s what else our team has been doing to protect people and start to rebuild:

@MassEMA has been on the ground since last night, working around the clock to support local emergency operations. They’ve secured thousands of sandbags and are helping coordinate staffing and shelter supplies for displaced families.

We met newly arrived families seeking safety and shelter in MA with compassion & resources, but our shelter system is stretched thin.

With this state of emergency, I'm delivering an urgent appeal to the federal govt: remove barriers standing between new arrivals & opportunity.

The truth is, new arrivals are eager to work and support their families, and with labor shortages touching nearly every sector, we can use their help. But we’re seeing wait times for work authorization stretch from a few months to a year or more.
