Islander, happily getting by with my clan on a little ole lump of mud in the North Sea. Don’t tend to follow anyone posting infestations of political tweets.

Melford Hall in Suffolk is a place steeped in history. Once owned by Benedictine monks, it was built in 1559, visited by Queen Elizabeth I in 1578 and was plundered during the English Civil War. This thread however is about a later visitor to the house, Miss Beatrix Potter. Image Reverend Sir William Hyde Parker, 10th Baronet and owner of Melford Hall married Ethel Leech, a cousin of Beatrix Potter. Beatrix would often visit her cousin and try out her prototype stories on the Hyde Parker children. Image

This is Paycockes House in Coggeshall in Essex. It's a reminder of the medieval Wool Age when towns throughout East Anglia prospered and fortunes were to be made. I've lived within 30 miles of this building for most of my life but visited it for the first time back in May. THREAD Image Although most of the building is Tudor, the oldest part at the back dates from c.1420 and is all that remains of an open medieval hall. A Tudor wool merchant by the name of Thomas Paycocke inherited the house from his father and decided to create a building to show off his wealth Image

Yesterday I undertook a journey of exploration, a first visit. By train to Needham Market in Suffolk and then on foot cross country for a couple of miles or so. My destination was special, a time capsule of past emotion and devotion, St Mary's Church, Badley. Thread. Image I opted for a circular route beginning with footpaths that took me far from traffic, the sound of noisy vehicles replaced by birdsong. It seemed fitting that I should approach such an ancient place by field paths probably centuries old. It felt like a mini- pilgrimage. #Suffolk Image

This is my son Ethan. Ethan is 14 and he has autism. Today his mum and sister had an appointment at Addenbrookes Hospital so it fell upon me to take Ethan out for the day. If you're interested this is a thread about how we got on. Word of warning, there aren't any pictures. 1/13 Image Ethan wanted to go to the 'World of Miniatures' at Wrexham in Norfolk. We'd been earlier in the year but Ethan likes model trains and he likes repetition. The mad dash out of the house to get the early bus began characteristically badly as he forgot to pack his hat. 2/13
