Reverend Sir William Hyde Parker, 10th Baronet and owner of Melford Hall married Ethel Leech, a cousin of Beatrix Potter. Beatrix would often visit her cousin and try out her prototype stories on the Hyde Parker children. 
Although most of the building is Tudor, the oldest part at the back dates from c.1420 and is all that remains of an open medieval hall. A Tudor wool merchant by the name of Thomas Paycocke inherited the house from his father and decided to create a building to show off his wealth 
I opted for a circular route beginning with footpaths that took me far from traffic, the sound of noisy vehicles replaced by birdsong. It seemed fitting that I should approach such an ancient place by field paths probably centuries old. It felt like a mini- pilgrimage. #Suffolk 
Ethan wanted to go to the 'World of Miniatures' at Wrexham in Norfolk. We'd been earlier in the year but Ethan likes model trains and he likes repetition. The mad dash out of the house to get the early bus began characteristically badly as he forgot to pack his hat. 2/13
