A big highlight of pastoring @RCBCRichmond has been two back-to-back Tuesday meetings:

1. Service Review
2. Sermon Preview

Brief 🧵 Service Review:

Members can offer input on the various elements of Sunday’s service (songs, prayers, sermon, etc.). This means I receive constructive feedback on my preaching each week—and I’m the better for it!

Consider afresh the kinds of people Jesus manages to bring together. We often focus on the blue-collar, ragtag nature of the disciples, but I don’t think we often reckon with their deep differences. Some of which ran along fault lines similar to what we face today. On the same team you have Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot. It’s hard to feel the scandal now, but here’s the historical reality: the Zealots were a fierce sect of Jewish 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴, bent on overthrowing Roman oppression at all costs.

That’s Simon.

I rarely do threads, but here goes. This is amazing.

Todd White is very popular in word-of-faith and prosperity-gospel circles. He was featured—with Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, and others—in “American Gospel: Christ Alone” (2018).

He called the film “demonically inspired.” Below are 7 clips from his latest sermon. I encourage you to watch them all.

Let’s be clear: This is not a time to gloat or feel superior, but a chance to rejoice and an occasion to pray. May God keep working in Todd—in all of us—for his glory. Hallelujah for gospel grace!

Recently at @ThirdAvenueBapt I got to teach on the beauty of godly singleness. Several of the quotes I shared—including a few I had to leave on the cutting room floor—are so edifying that I’d like to share them here. I hope this encourages you or someone you love. Several are from @SamAllberry, since I’d just read his outstanding book “Seven Myths About Singleness,” which you should go ahead and preorder now: amzn.to/2KlHwGh

I think the most underrated fruit of the Spirit is gentleness. Gentleness is a major emphasis in Scripture and a major mark of a Christian. No, not the only mark, but a major one.
