Additional thoughts on Erdoğan’s threat to torpedo Finland & Sweden’s NATO bid.
There are a few possibilities and angles:
Perhaps RTE felt he wasn’t consulted & sounded off. Maybe he wants a Biden chat about it. I doubt this explains such an aggressive public statement. Turkey & Hungary were the obvious potential stumbling blocks to unanimity, identified months ago when membership first became a real prospect. It’s almost unthinkable that US officials would’ve neglected to run the traps with the Turks. That RTE went public is a very bad sign.
