I want to say the most heartfelt THANK YOU to all the volunteers who knocked doors and made calls, all the people who voted for me, all the supporters who helped us build our grassroots campaign. 💖 While the end result didn't go in our favor – congratulations to Congressman Hoyer on a 22nd term in office – this is a movement bigger than any one person or one election.

It's a movement to put people-funded and people-centered candidates in office up and down the ballot.

Sandra Bland. Tamir Rice. Philando Castile. Freddie Gray. Mike Brown. Terence Crutcher. Alton Sterling. Jamar Clark. Eric Garner. Jordan Edwards. Laquan McDonald. Walter Scott. Botham Jean... and many more.

We cannot bring them back.

But we can act to ensure no more join them: We need to *fundamentally* change the way police interact with members of the community. How do we do this?

✔️Demilitarizing & disarming police forces
✔️Civilian police review boards
✔️Prohibiting use of stop-and-frisk programs
✔️Prohibiting quota-based tickets/arrests...

1/5 Thread: KAMALA

Alright, there’s a lot going on here. I thought I would share my personal feelings about this, if anyone is interested.

Let me start by saying I have problems w/ her record as a prosecutor and her current stances on various issues. My #1 candidate is Bernie. 2/5 KAMALA

The birtherism is obviously racist garbage.

I’ve seen posts about her not being eligible to be President, about secretly being an “anchor baby,” etc.

A lot of it is incoherent and clearly only happening because she’s Black.

1/7 Reparations have been taboo in mainstream politics for so long that I think many people genuinely don't understand why they're needed.

So, to those asking in good faith, I want to break down why reparations for descendants of slaves are a moral obligation. 2/7 The institution of slavery in the United States evolved after the Civil War, taking on new manifestations of white supremacy.

In the Jim Crow era, the economic and social oppression of Black people was legally institutionalized.

1/10 Many Congressional candidates steer clear of foreign policy. But talking about the role we’ve played in world affairs, and how it needs to change, is incredibly important. Particularly in MD-05: a suburb of D.C. nestled in the shadow of the military-industrial complex. 2/10 The issues which have defined U.S. foreign policy in my lifetime have played a role in shaping who I am. As I’ve said, my Aunt Sharon was killed in 9/11 while working in the Pentagon. I currently work as an Administrative Assistant in the Pentagon myself.

1/8 Our immoral health care system costs lives. My health care policy is driven by a simple principle: Healthcare is a human right. When you go to the doctor, it should be free. 2/8 A cousin of mine with diabetes was denied Medicaid and couldn’t afford insulin. She was pregnant and she had her daughter prematurely due to the complications. I watched her slowly lose her eysight. She’s now completely blind.

I’m so excited to announce that I am running to represent Maryland’s 5th Congressional District! I’m running to fight for Affordable Housing and Medicare for All, because housing and healthcare are both fundamental human rights. I’m running to enact a Green New Deal, because we are the last generation who has a chance to prevent climate catastrophe.
